Installed USB-MP3 player for Skoda head unit

Featured Replies

I bought and installed device called Xcarlink to my vRS with Stream MP3 headunit (also fit to MFD2). In Russia it cost around 80 pounds.

This box connected to head unit with CDchanger hub and you can listen MP3 files, written on flash-stick (I use 4Gb stick) and change the songs via MFS buttons or headunit buttons.

It is working, but with small disadvantages (China made, hmmm) like errors with playing time (not a fatal) and (somethimes) with changing folders (your chois is second, but playing - first)

Other sollutions

1. Skoda Audience MP3 (from ebay). Not take into account because plane to change HU to MFD2 if they create a navigation maps for Russia

2. VW iPOD adapter. I dont nave and dont need in iPod

3.Phatnoise (thanks to VRStu), but price and dimensioning...

I have just installed one of these XCarLink USB/MP3 players in my Superb.

It only took 10 minutes to fit to the standard Symphony head unit including creating radio removal tools from an old credit card.

The bonus of this unit is the CD changer still works - I don't know any others that will allow this which is why I chose it. Pressing the CD button gives you the MP3 player, pressing the CD button to go back to the radio then again gets you to the CD changer.

The folders on the USB stick need to be labeled CD01, CD02 etc, then they are selectable from the buttons on the head unit as though they are CDs.

I only installed this a couple of days ago but I'm very pleased with it.

The player will play CD07 onwards if you let it run, (I haven't seen how many it will play) but having only six buttons you can only choose the first 6 folders although each folder can hold 99 tracks.. Any folders beyond 6 show as CD01 on the screen.

They did send me the iPod version first, but I just called into their office at Staples Corner on the North Circular and they changed it with much apologies.
