Help Asap - Car In Bits

Featured Replies

hi i'm in the process of fitting some driving lights / fogs to my octy vrs.

I have taken the wiper blades/arms off as i need to remove the black cover which sits between the front windscreen and bonnet/engine.

I can see its in 2 bits but i have not found any screws to loosen i feel like i'm pulling on something when i try to force it.

I need to move so i can route a wire through to the cockpit (i'm having the lights on own switch, not set up to come on with mainbeam.

Help please i'm halfway through job. Lights mounted wanna see them working. Help:(

Are you trying to route through the grommet in the bulk head on the passenger's side?

If so, it might be possible to just lever up the side of the scuttle panel enough to slide your arm through to thread the cable - not a painless process but easier than removing the panel!

Rob.

IIRC for the driving lights to be legal they have to wire to come on with main beam.

As Lummox says, they need to be wired to come on with full beam if they are driving lights, or so that they can only be used with sidelights if they are foglights.

To remove the scuttle, find the join in the middle and then lift the lower (front most) edge of the upper piece. Once you can get your fingers under, lift the back edge first (the edge closest to the windscreen). It's stiff but will unclip. There are no screws holding the scuttle, it just clips along the edge of the window and under the rubber bonnet seal.

Hi

I had the scuttle panel off when fixing the leak at the bonnet cable

i got the mechanic at main dealer to remove it first although all you need to do is remove the wiper arms and the rubber that secures the scuttle to the inner part of engine bay.

Then with a little courage pull one side of the scuttle panel away from the bottom of the window if you look you will see it runs in a channel along the bottom of the window dont go at it like a bull in a china shop just gentle pressure pulling it away from the window at a 45degree angle i used a small flat blade electrical screw driver to just get it started.

When putting it back in gentle pressure and you will hear it clicking in dont try and force it back home

Hope this helps

They must be wired as per lummox to be legal, you will also fail the MOT test if they are not wired this way.

Someone on here told me to heat the scuttle panel with a hairdryer first so "soften" it up before popping it off and it seemed to do the trick. Be prepared for it to come off suddenly - mine made a cracking noise and I thought I'd broken it - it was fine though.
