Golf GT TDI 150 Test Drive

Featured Replies

Hi

Ive got a test drive with one of these in the next few days. Ive had the GT TDI115 previously what should I be looking out for with the GT TDI150?

Im aware that the suspension is firmer they are mainly badged up as GT I (red I - but some silver) RED TDI on the engine cover, Montreal 2 alloys.

Some have recaro seats some dont.

All have climate control.

This one is up for

Is that a MK4 ?

Yes Mk 4 Gt TDI 150 Golf

If you like a lag-free drive the 150 isn't the best. I drove a Leon Cupra TDI with the same engine and it wasn't as pleasant to drive as either the 2.0 140 or the 1.9 130.

Interesting point - I enjoyed the drive from the TDI PD 115 given RPM was >1750 then acceleration was pretty brisk while below that i.e. 1500rpm it would be pointless flooring it rather build up the speed then suddenly its going nuts as the torque peaks.

Would I be correct in stating that if driven with low revs the TDI150 would be more fuel efficient than the TDI130 due to it being off boost?

Am I correct in stating its the same ratios on the gearbox?

I'm not sure, I'd have thought the off or on boost ranges are roughly similar, just that the larger turbo spools up slower.

Edit: I'm pretty sure the gearboxes are the same, though depending on age you might get the slightly longer-ratio one that was in the early Fabias.

Just make sure you cant hear any unusual metallic rattling from the engine. The ARL has been known to wear the hydraulic lifters right out which then takes the camshaft out. An expensive repair with modified lifters.

Friend of mine had a 130bhp GTTDi and drove the 150. He liked the 130 better, just thought it was better to drive. Work colleague also as a 130bhp and loves it, thought it was much better value to buy than a 150 (she paid
