Insuring a car post-repair with cat-C

Featured Replies

Hi,

A good question was raised regarding insuring a car that was written off as a Cat C in my case.

Assuming the car is repaired to good standard etc, and the vehicle is checked (VID), would this cause any problems with the insurance?

What kinda value would an insurer put on the vehicle in that state?

I am unable to get to my policy documents etc, but if you know how this works because of experience, or you have some info on this to clarify this point, please post back here, would be really appreciated :D

IIRC when you ring up for insurance they usually ask if the car has been written off etc, aso i beleive when you do get it back on the road it be registered under a "Q" plate which is for kit cars, stolen n recovered and write offs that been rebuilt.

Nah CAT C doesnt require a Q plate, that would be for a re chassied car.

no probs,my mistake. was told write offs were automatically moved to "Q" so they were easily distinguised as a write off thats been repaired.

Car will retain its current reg, There should be no problem with insurance either.

Depends on there cat, C and D I believe are classed as damage repairable.

I should think you will just get a lower payout if heaven forbid it happened again. So what might normally be an

i thought "Q" plates had been deleted , not seen any for years

Q plates still exist but are rarer than they used to be.

A cat C car would keep it's original plate but would be worth quite a bit less so if it was crashed again in future the insurance payout would be less.

Ok - thanks for that :)

Will have to check with Norwich Union about this, as of course I need to be sensible with this, as long as it can be insured without too much change in premium etc ;)

I want the car back on the road, that's the main goal, but we'll see how bad the damage is :)
