Vibration from dashboard

Featured Replies

Had my Skoda Octavia for 1 month now and more than happy with it, however one annoying problem. It has developed vibration from the dashboard and it sounds as if it is coming from behind the centre air vents. The noise is like a thin piece of metal vibrating but it only happens occasionally and when accelerating harder than normal. Also seems to be slightly worse when going round corners.

Anyone else experienced this problem. Any possible remedy appreciated

I have the same thing when it is revving hard, v interested to see if anyone has located and stopped it. Mine sounds like it is down near the ashtray.

me too. usually around high revs or coarse roads. its nunber 4 on my issues list for the dealer to fix.

I have DSG and have been getting a vibration since new (1 year old/45,000 miles). They didn't fix it first time I mentioned it, but I took it in this Wednesday and they told me part of the wiring loom was loose. It's been ok since.

I have DSG too , will get them to check that. Cheers

Mines doing it too, i'm going to remove the centre vent/cubby assembly over the weekend and see if thats the cause.

Press the piece of the dash directly under the centre vents (and above the radio surround). I have done a bit of a mod on mine, its not perfect but it is better. Seems to mainly happen on cold or really hot days. I actually think its the whole centre vents/cubby hole assembly.

The cubby hole/vent part faulty when I took the car for a test drive. It was replaced by the dealer and there may lie the problem. Its booked in for Tuesday afternoon, so fingers crossed they will find out what is making the noise. It does seem to get worse on hot days when the aircon is working harder.

Argg!! i have the same problem on my Octy 2!! "The noise is like a thin piece of metal vibrating but it only happens occasionally and when accelerating harder than normal." Exactly the same for me!! I hope someone knows how to sort this..(car in the dealers @ the moment for front strut mounts replace and to solve the rattle!) bet they mess it up again!!!!

Cheers

Andy

If it's an earlier car then there is a revised part for the mesh in the edge of the dash by the windscreen.

I have the same sound - and have mentioned it previously.

I have also had the mesh vent strips replaced that run across the top of dash and this has not cured the problem.

I found the source of the vibration in mine just now, the on/off button underneath the dimming mirror, it rattles under moderate to hard acceleration at about 1800-2000rpm. Push the button right in to see whether it is that or not.

I've been whacking the dash for weeks to no avail but I could have sworn blind it was coming from the centre vents. Another example of deceptive rattles in a car

I had similar rattles in MK2 Octy vRS. It seemed as if it was coming from above the glove box area and across to the driver's side from there. I had a look underneath the glove box and there are small screws which require a kind of star shaped allen key, dotted around the edge (i am so technical). I tightened these and then found some more which are located on the end of the passenger side of the dashboard - you access them by pulling out the side panel cover and can tighten the same type of screws.

Hey presto, no more rattles.

ill try tightning the screws arround the glove box! Was in the garage getting strut mounts and the rattle but again they "coundnt here it".... Im getting very fed up with Skoda service @ the moment!!

Could also be sunglasses rattling around in the holder.

 I now have a new one coming from the top of the belt holder, right by my ear, have to turn up the stereo more ,

Had the sunnies on when whacking said dash i'm afraid :D

It's the mirror and it vibrates like a pig under heavy acceleration and with loud music. No word of a lie, if I want to identify a car in the rear view mirror the stereo must be turned down to eliminate the vibration, it's a dealer visit methinks.

yup, i have the irritating tinny rattle as well. i would say it seems to come from the dashboard. love to know what it is.

sometimes in is joined by the other 'clonky' dashboard rattle. A more regular contributor is the nearside rear door panel, all helping to create a dissonant orchestra. i dont think it will reach the top ten ;)

I am thinking of taking the door panel apart; could anyone advise me of some sound deadening material and where i could get some?

I have been investigating a rattle around my passenger side dash cover (same as the fusebox cover) where the removable part is rubbing against the fixed dashboard.

Doing a search around i have found some Silicone Grease, but unsure that this will actually form a film around the plastic insert and stop the friction causing the noise.

I just had a metallic rattle in the area you describe resolved! :D

Turns out that the ECU bracket wasn't fully tight and every now & again was moving and hitting the bulkhead (giving the metallic sound). Apparently the mecanic had to pull most of the scuttle apart to get to it....but, i've not heard the #clink# sound since having the car back on friday. :D

I hope that helps someone...

MPM :D

I have two similar problems. Something rattles badly from behind the dash when I brake going down hills. I've also developed a new high pitched rattle which started when I turned the aircon on, but now happens all the time. Two of many problems with my 55 plate Octavia estate.

There are known issues with dash rattles on the Octavia, hopefully they can be resolved by the dealer when they look at your clutch ;)

I have tried the silicone grease and it has "melted" in the heat and after 4 hours the noise is back.

I have decided that my sound is now like Polystyrene.

If I remove the cover at the end of the dash the sound gets louder. I cant physically see any polystyrene like material through the gap....

as a last resort it will have to go back to the dealer.
