Revs rising but i'm not going anywhere!

Featured Replies

With the Jabba remap earlier in the week 'we' decided it would be a good idea to try timing some 0-60 times...

So 3,000rpm, ASR off, dump the clutch and nothing.....

revs keep rising, but the car isn't moving, theres no wheel spin, just nothing. A quick change to second and again nothing, ok getting worried, into third, car still stationary, backing off the revs and it wasn't until they dropped to about 1500rpm the car starts to crawl forwards very slowly before picking up.

Strong smell of burning clutch, but not really bad.

Crawled forward 100yards, stopped and tried twice again starting at 1500rpm and all was fine (after massive massive) amounts of wheel spin in first and even more in second!

So what happened the first time?

Clutch slip? Is this a symptom it's failing?

BTW: 0-60 was 7.9 and 7.5, hmm needs some practice!

Clutch is fecked! :(

Bye-Bye Clutch!

I've got a theory that the clutch on the Vrs is a bit underrated. The one on my Vrs didn't take much abuse before it started smelling a bit.

Check you can still change gear at higher rpm !

I've had a similar problem where the clutch and flywheel needed replacing, as it would not change gear over 3000 rpm.

Colin

Yep. Exactly what my RS did. It happens when the clutch doesn't disengage fully.

No problems there, theres a little bit of judder as you pull away, but no other symptoms.

Anyone know how much a new clutch is and is it worth getting an uprated version?

Interesting question, and does anyone know if the 4x4 clutch is similar / the same?

Si - take it easy with the tyres ;)

Well i'll not be doing anymore for a while now...

The 4 1.8T engines - AUM, AUQ, ARX and AGU - use the same 225mm clutch pressure plate and clutch plate.

Phil is right, you must of pulled the clutch out too quick. I did the same thing in Blackpool at a set of traffic lights next to a 106. Floored it, nothing happened, couldnt put the gearstick in to any gear for about 5 minutes and the smell was fooking horrible and last for a few hours, i dont think your clutch is fooked but shortened the life of the clutch.

225 mm - 9 inches is a pathetic size for a 200bhp plus engine. How wide is the friction band?

Is anyone running an uprated clutch?

Is it recommended?

ABD Sach Clutch and single mass fly wheel......ask DaveU
