Best oil for Octavia vRS mk1?

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

My 2001 vRS octavia is up for a service in the next month... thinking about maybe providing the oil myself? Guessing this way I can choose what they use and it should save some cash?

They quoted

syntha gold is good, and some dealerships use it. make sure what ever you use it has the right vw coding. there's a table of which to use on the main site iirc.

Will I save much providing it myself? How much would I need to order?!!

Sorry for being such a newbie!

VW503 00 is the code you need(from a quick search).unless you want something like mobil1 then i would go with the dealerships oil.

personally i do my own oil changes so i use my local motor factors semi synthetic.

I'm tempted to start changing my oil every 5k but have never changed oil before! Something I need to look into...

Thanks for your help :)

i use a pella pump. It sucks it out of the dip stick hole.then just put a wad of rags around the oil filter and unscrew it and remove up through the front.it's quite tricky but i have got it down to a fine art(having the hands of a small child helps too :D

It only takes 5 minutes to take the plug out and swap the filter over, and 10 minutes to let the oil drain :) I use mobile 1

which rating at type of mobil 1 do you use?

A little tip. Flatten the oil filter box out and wedge it up inbetween the oil cooler (above the filter) and the engine block. Then when you loosen the oil filter and the oil dribbles out it runs down the card rather than down the block. Makes cleaning up a lot easier.
