Laminated side windows- The proof

Featured Replies

Well had a nice holiday and came home to find that the wifes car (citroen c4 coupe) has had a side window attacked. Ours was not the only car done, but the only one to survive! There are 3 small strike marks and 1 big one where I guessed they got pi55ed of with it! These along wih the alarm was a

So what happens now?

Do you still need to replace the glass or are the strike marks just as you say "Small Marks"?

Sound a good deal all in

I find that leaving absolutely nothing on display inside the car prevents this from happening. unless it was mindless vandalism of course.

What happens if you mistakenly decide to end it all by putting a tube from the exhaust through a crack in the window, then the cops turn up and can't rescue you because of the laminated glass?

Then you're stupid and you deserve to die.

They'd pull the hosepipe off the exhaust first surely? ;)

Looking forward to some pics. Sounds like a good security feature, yet perhaps when you're in a bad accident, it makes it a little trickier to get out of a wreckage?

If it was a bad accident personally I would stay put and not risk further injuries. I have seen a few people who felt ok and extracted themselves, only to find they had done serious damage which was then made worse. Always stay put until you are checked.

Also lets be honest there is a far higher chance of theft/vandalism than an accident, and on a modern car you should always be able to open the doors.

But an intersting point.....

So do you need to replace the glass then?

Yes as you can now see from the photo there are 4 strike marks, one very big one, and 3 smaller ones above it, the outer pane of glass as cracked and air has got into the laminated area, but the inner pane is intact.

Cheerful b*gger

As far as I'm aware the proper security film and similar glass are pretty hard to break from the outside, but in the event of a smash you can push it out from the inside.

Well on a petrol car these days you just end up with a headache anyway, no carbon monoxide to kill you ;)

Can't you just disconnect a couple of the sensors so it runs really badly

On jasons fabia, if the noise didnt kill you the soot definatley would ;)

So, this laminated glass stuff, now needs replacing, and is presumeably more expensive than standard glass.

Yes needs replacing and yes more expensive, BUT they did not get into the car and there is NOT glass all over the inside of the car....
