Jason, jason, jason.

Just as well we got some easy outs from Mr snap-on the other day.

Sorry but I have to laugh a bit :D

Worse things could happen!

Good luck with an easy out on an M6? screw not mch to play with.

This one goes down with 'the strut brace is not a tow bar' incedent.

Bit of a woeful tale this one J.

You were doing so well with the paint job as well.

and I just f***ed things up royally!

It is definitely a "proper" bolt, so a left hand easy-out will sort it. It will need to be a narrow one though. I've heard they start at 3mm which sounds perfect for this job.

This probably beats the headlight panel in the gearbox cables incident too. :D

this is worse - after all his mongrelling jason could/should be expected to know better whereas the strut-brace incident is pretty much par for the course :D

Dont think this tops the "strut brace" Thats in a different league.

I bet the word **** was used alot then Jas.

where does trying to bleed your newly fitted big brakes for hours, before being told that you've fitted the calipers on on upside down rank in the grand scheme of "d'oh!!" moments...? :D

Not even CLOSE to mine.... :P From what I can gather it shouldn't be too bad. Mate has a snap-on easy out, and as all I've done is essentially tightened them until they all snapped (rather easily I hasten to add....) they should come out easily enough. It just needs a careful hole drilling.

Taking the day off work tomorrow to go sort it out. I can spend a little more time on the felicia too then.;)

they should come out easily enough.

Since you've sheared the heads (so they won't be in tension), and they're not seized, you could be lucky.

 The same amount of undoing pressure as I used to snap them off (which wasn't much, hence me doing them all before realising) should see them out.

All being well, hoping it's just a case of drilling 10 careful holes, and a minute or so with the easyout. :)

Kind of glad I have all the spare bolts the spare cover came with now...

Jason,

A No2, 7/64" Screw Extractor should do the trick. Smaller and you may snap the extractor. Just checked the best size a work for a 6mm screw.

Picture shows a 6mm screw and extractor.

what size spanner/wrench did you ise Jas as i've never snapped a bolt that easily unless it was very old, rusty and using a torque wrench or something else quite long.

I'm not sure, but here he is moments before !

 It was a half inch driver, with only about a 12" handle, so a relatively small one, and not much effort used (I'm a fair weakling :D)

12" wrench's can deal quite a bit of torque. you'll probably find that cam cover bolts are only around 20Nm or something silly like that which my torque wrench doesn't even go down to

there only 10nm bolts, so it doesnt take mutch!!! :thumbdwn:

Which means all being well, they'll come out nice and easy.

That doesnt mean they take 10nm to shear them though!

camshaft cover bolt tightening torque , 10nm (7lbft)

so easily snapped with a 12" bar turned the wrong way

Hello Jase, good luck with the easy out. I've been using them for about 12 years now in the aircraft industry. If you find that it slips out as you try to undo it, try tapping it with a hammer as you undo it with the wrench. Also be careful not to snap the easy out as they are hard as anything and will require a cobalt drill at the very least to make any impact. All the best. Oh and by the way you can get parallel splined easy outs by snap on/ blue point if you get really stuck.

Snap-on ones will be being utilised. ;)

I have a set of those splined Snap On ones - pretty neat.

Something tells me you've never had to use them on a ****-up of your own though. I must put an "on" and "off" marking in permanent marker on my ratchet....
