Mounting reverse sensor

Featured Replies

Hi,

I want to mount the original reverse sensor on my 2002 vRS. Anyone here with some tips on that?

No tips as such but I can post a pic of the positioning if required? These were fitted from new on my vRS.

Please do :)

If you have got the original kit like i did off ebay its easy to fit mate.

Pull the bump strip off and drill a small pilot hole through it.

Put the bump strip back and and drill straight through the bumper.

Using a cone bit make the hole larger until the sensor just fits (17.5mm IIRC)

Feed the sensors though and stick them in place.

Wire up the control box and then connect to the wiring to the near side rear light.

Job done

Some pics of the rear bumper with the factory fit sensors. Please forgive the very dirty car :D

i have these on my works van and think they are a waste of time. do you guys find them usefull?

Yea i find them useful especially as i have the hatch the rear is quite deceptive as you cant clearly see where the back is.

I end up being miles away when i think im close to something :D

I find them very useful for the same reason posted by Mattbeef.

Do you have the details of the seller that you bought your OEM kit from?

Is it really that easy to do? Just drill some holes, hide a box and tap into the reverse wire!? Is that following the instructions, so the same as standard fitment, or is that just how you have to do it if you retro fit?

Sorry for all the questions! :o

not a problem mate.

Yes fitting really is as easy as drilling some holes (you need a cone cutter though!), tap into the reverse wire.

Those are the more or less the instructions that come in the box. You actually get the real connectors in there but i could undo the original connectors so i just used two scotch locks :D

Fitment or rather where you place them is optional. As the sensors are black and i have a red vrs it made scence to put them in the bump strip rather than the bumper and they work fine where they are.

The seller who i bought mine from was hootiemcboob1969 and ive seen the same seller offer the OEM kits a few time before so im sure they will be able to help if you give them a shout

As Mattbeef says it really is that easy, :D

I bought an oem kit off Ebay & fitted it myself, took about 4 hours iirc, but I took the bumper off & fitted the sensors in it as per the diagram & instructions.

Works fine & both swmbo & me find it very useful.

.

Excellent. I think I'll be investing in some of these soon as I'm.... I mean, my wife has trouble guaging where the bcak of the car ends!

Mine is a silver one and I think I'll just go for the rub strip option like you have Matt, I think they look a little tidier up there anyway.

i have to say that they have saved my skin loads as i have to admit the octy is the first car i find difficult to reverse accurately

Before you buy any have a look at these as I have just fitted some today on my diamond silver vrs and the colour of the sensor matches perfectly with the bumper , worth every penny in my opinion .

Scottie > Got som pictures for us?

How was is to install?

Sorry for the late reply had a high powered business meeting (pub) but will try and post some piccies tomorrow if I can work out how to add them .

As for the install I used some pictures kindly sent to me by robclubley and sneeks in another thread and took my time , you know the one "measure twice cut once" about a hour in total for fitting and was very very simple .
