L.E.D Rear indicator bulbs!

Featured Replies

Hi all, just fitted some LED indicator bulbs! about 36 little led's and look cool! but even though they flash at the correct speed the green arrows flash quicker like you have a bulb gone! will this bring up a fault code or possibly bring on the engine warning light?

Thanks in advance fellas!

Skoda's don't like LED replacment bulbs as it can interfere with the bulb warning system.

You can also try wiring in a normal bulb into the loom aswell ;)

The resistor draws current so the LED which draws hardly any current will now act like a normal bulb and not keep setting off the bulb failure light.

Cheers chaps! forgot to say its a fabia vrs! no warning lights on yet!

I've seen this before in a few VW forums, seems to work quite well. The bulb warning system is basically based on the resistance of a given circuit.

I've only changed my sidelights to LED as yet, so no failure warning lgiths for me... but tbh I'm wondering why are you changing your indicator lights? You know you can get orange/silver bulbs (if you need to, you can get them from all branches of Halfords, regardless of what they tell you) if that's what you need.

Other than that I can't see a valid reason for LED replacements...

They just look cool and will never pack up! still no lights on the dash but the green arrow still flashes fast! oh well!

if the indicator light is flashing fast, so are the indicators.

The bulb failure looks at the current draw not specifically the resistance of a given circuit. You need to mimic the current draw with a high power resistor, it must be wired in parallel with the LED. Take note the resistors will generate considerable heat and great care must be taken when postioning them.

They are called either load resistors or shunt resistors.

Something like 25 watts will suffice for the indicators and/or sidelights.

The Octavia II also checks sidelights and will drop them out if the current draw isn't hunky dory

Also, the LED units are not good near any sizeable heat source, they will go pop in a matter of weeks.
