1000 mile economy figures (Fabia vRS)

Featured Replies

I've just passed 1000 miles in my new Fabia vRS, here's what the number 2 trip computer says:

1022 miles

27:59 hrs:mins

37 mph

48.9 mpg

Quite impressed really. Here are details of two 200+ mile trips I took a couple of weeks ago: http://www.briskoda.net/forums/showthread.php?t=9047

Nice one, just ordered a vRS cos my puma powered fiesta was using too much fuel, so thats quite encouraging!

And it will get better as the miles pile on :)

Just been to Stansted airport and back (about 180 miles) and averaged at about 51mpg. That's with 4 people + lugguage on the way out at an indicated 90 on the m'way, and 2 people with no lugguage on the way back at an indicated 80.

Filled up with ultimate diesel when I left, using the expansion tank. Got back and the needle still hasn't moved off "full" :D

Average speed of 37 MPH?

Get your foot off the brakes man and give it some welly ;)

 but more importantly, :iagree:

Yeah - my motorway/longer trips average between 52 and 55mpg. I haven't used any fancy fuel yet... Only have a small Shell and Tesco locally. I'll look out for Shell's or BP's new fuels in the future.

OT but has anyone got a GPS device and knows the true speed when the vRS indicates 70, 80 and 90?

Pah - There's a lot of congestion in and around Bristol during rush hour! What are your ~1000 mile average speeds?

Well thats pretty good going. If I remember correctly, my number 2 computer tells me about 37 - 38 MPG. The best I ever got consistently was about 47 MPG, and I really had to drive like a granny to get that, freewheeling down banks etc. I have past 1700 miles in mine. 45 MPG seems attainable with fairly careful driving, but getting much past that is very hard, and cruising at 85-90 seems to get me around 35-40 for the time I am cruising. Does this sound about right (I have to admit that maybe I expected more, but what with the gearing in this car, not really surprised).

That certainly seems lower than mine. Esp the 35-40 for an 85-90mph motorway run.

Ah well, I guess I must of got one of those rare ones that never seem to meet expectations, I have read about this with other cars. My dads Polo TDI 100 Sport for example, gets 57 MPG, but I have heard of other people with the same cars who struggle to get within 10 MPG of it. :(

Mine averages about 42 MPG drving sensibly. Around 35 MPG when driving like a loon, but then my car isnt exactly std.

Furbie TDi 17,000 miles

Recent trip to Ross-on-Wye, economy run! 65.5mpg

I saw 424 mpg indicated during a drive to Bedford, honest! I will try and get a photo this week of a similarly outrageous reading. :)

PS And that is from a tuned 1.8T petrol engine!!! :D

You sure you weren't hitting 4.24 mpg ?

I thought it would only register up to 200mpg before going "off the chart"

So did I but it will indicate far in excess of that and 424 mpg was a genuine figure. Managing to take a photo before the display reverts to --- is another matter entirely, but I am going to have a go. :)

I've just come back from a European trip with the Furby:

1200 miles

Average speed: 53 mph

Fuel economy: 39.9 mpg

Undoubtedly a drive of 2 halves: 800 miles to the Nurburgring at 50 mpg and 400 miles around it at something a little less - on some days I saw only 27 mpg on average.

well Im now at 1500miles, and my no.2 reading say average MPG is 44 over that 1500, and I've only had 1 long journey(500miles). So not too bad. I thought it was low but looking at some of the other scores on here, it seems OK. I have been told that it gets better after the engine free's off at about 6000 miles. :)

Yes it does. Diesels are like booze and get better with age. The more miles the better. I went round into Glasgow City Centre today and it never droped to lower than 50mpg.....

I don't think that speedo error is necessarily the same for each Octavia variant. What puzzles me with my car is that GPS and odometer mileages are almost identical on long journeys, as are average mph figures, but the speedo reading is significantly in error.

Coming back along the M3 last night, my Tomtom gave the following from my fabia vrs speedo

Speedo 70 = GPS 66

Speedo 80 = GPS 75/76

Speedo 90 = GPS 85/86

Speedo (legally) overeads and the Odometer doesn't. Average mph is worked out from the odometer.

Octavia 110 bhp (+ the Peterbourough treatment)

The overall economy isn't quite as good but that's to be expected since I was keeping the revs low during the running in period at first. The speed and economy are also down since there weren

27 mpg round the Ring? Tourist! :P You wanna be getting in the 14s :D

How is the Fabia round the Ring?

For the record my stats so far:

Best tank - 72.1 mpg  and dear god was it painful! :D

Average to date 49.8 including Bruntingthorpe

Worst tank - <16 mpg :D :D

2408 Miles covered

37 MPH average speed

65:03 driving time

I am blown away, especially when my last journey was...
