Issues with the Octy 2 1.9 TDI DSG

Featured Replies

as its not like a "normal" auto and uses two "auromatic" clutches it should be fullty disengaged if a foot is kept on the brake - however, I like others on this forum , am convice the the car feels more "at rest" when in N.

ahh yes ive heard its double clutch system is one of the reasons its a great gearbox :)

anyone fancy coming past my dealership next sunday and taking for a testdrive???

So you can tow with it too! Do you have to fit a gearbox oil cooler?

Sorry Ray_Green, I missed your earlier reply to my post about it towing a caravan superbly.

The "old" conventional autos have a torque converter which unless locked will always have a degree of slip and it's this slip which generates the heat. More so when towing a heavy load.

The DSG is an automated manual and you don't need oil coolers on manuals. The clutches change in a matter of milliseconds in an oil bath. No slip - no extra heat.

At least that's my take on it.

I'm well imprest with the DSG. It's worth every penny.

Never had a problem with mine (2 years old, 26k miles). I leave it in drive when stopped briefly.

It's very responsive. Using manual change seems hardly necessary; except e.g. when entering underpasses, when selecting the next ratio down helps.

Don't want to put a damper on enthusiasim for the DSG as it is a great box and normally very reliable.

check out this thread, I originally thought my problem was dealer created but it now seems to have been a pur conincidence that it occured on the way home from the dealers.

Still await final diagnosis as dealers are still talking to Skoda UK to try to get o the bottom of this.
