Hello to you all, Of coarse I have a problem but I just know you want to help, my 2000 reg 1600 Felicia has developed a 5th gear noise, sounds like a train overtaking me, is it cost effective to repair or replace with s/h unit if available (do you have one)are the 1.3 the same as 1.6.

this is a common problem with the 1.6 and 1.9d gearboxes .i would try and find a s/h box . as far as i am aware the 1.3 box is different (dont quote me on it though)

the 1.6 and 1.9d are interchangable as my old 1.9d is now running around with a 1.6 unit in it

the gearboxes are almost the same, but they have different ratios and some of the external mountings/fixings are slightly different too

my guess is that the fifth gear syncromesh is broke

My brother had this problem with his 1.6 felicia, its a cheap repair. Basically a nut has come loose inside the gearbox, and when you use 5th its rubbing against something in the gearbox. The cost of repair was less the
