Octavia Flat Battery?

Featured Replies

Will try to keep this short.

About to go on 2 week holiday someone hits car & damages passenger front wing, headlamp & bumper.

Nothing I can do now, it still ran,so left it at airport for 2 weeks.

On return it starts up no prob. & so couple of days later it goes into bodyshop for repairs which takes 2 weeks.

On picking the car up from repairers they have to jumpstart car (they said battery was flat, didn't think to question it as I was trying to get to somewhere in hurry)

Drove for about 1 1/2 hrs, fault light indicator always on, ABS & powersteering lights coming on & off on dash.

When I eventually stopped, car wouldn't restart only clicking noise coming from dash but various indicator lights on dash come on.

My question is this still a flat battery or is there something wrong with electrics after being worked on? Should the battery have gone flat considering it was o.k. after holiday peroid & started up first time.

Sorry for being long winded but had to give some background to see where I'm coming from. Any help much appreciated.

Sounds like a battery problem, what you need is a load test on it, Halfords & the like, will have the right tool for the job.

Mine displayed the same results on the dash when mine went flat, that turned out to be a faulty alternator!

If the battery voltage falls below the electronics' specifications, they can "brown out" - not quite a black-out, but not working properly either. In this state their behaviour can be unpredictable and you may well get random warning lights.

My question would be why the alternator doesn't appear to be charging the battery sufficiently to pull the voltage up, at least while the engine is running.

Thanks for your comments.

Obvious thing to do is get it back to repairer & get them to look at it first. So that's what I'll do.

Because it's shagged?
