Idiots Guide to Waxing (the car that is)

Featured Replies

Hi.

Going to give my car its first clean this weekend (weather permitting) but I've never really waxed a car properly before. Im just wondering what the best procedure is and the best products to use, ive got AutoGlym car shampoo but not sure what waxing product to buy.

Sorry for being an idiot but I just want to make sure I look after my new purchase properly.

cheers guys

Still not sure I do the claybar bit right!

Lots of threads on detailing though for you to check

I've used the Autoglym car shampoo and wax polish on my last three cars and it's always worked really well. For applying and buffing up I just use that stocking-roll stuff you get from Halfords, and make sure I don't try to do it in direct sunlight or if the bodywork is very hot.

One thing I have noticed with the Skoda is that if you get some of the polish on any of the trim - rubbing strips etc. - it doesn't seem to leave grey patches on the plastic like on older cars when you rub it off. Must be something in the plastic itself but it makes it look tons better afterwards.

If you've got Autoglym shampoo, use their waxes.

Same advice would apply if you had Mer or Meguiar.

i use turtle zip wax shampoo. then post chamiox i use p21's carnauba wax. leaves a deep gloss. i use an applicator pad then take it off with either a towel or cloth.

have even had comments on how i get it so shiney so i must be doing something right. or i have too much time lol

im gonna give mine the big full over tomorrow morning ready for the winter period. washed it tonight only to have a neighbour tell me i should stop washing my car as i will wash it away thick t--- :lol i havent washed it in two weeks and have a nice bonnet protection cover, its called flies ;)
