Brodit Phone Holder

Featured Replies

I've just bought a Brodit Phone Holder for my XDA Phone. It has a special fabia mounting, and a cigarette lighter cable from the bottom. I don't really want it dangling around, can I chop off the adapter and wire it in somewhere near the existing socket (but under the trim)?

Cheers

Jon

Depends, the plug may have more electronics in it to drop the voltage from 12v to whatever the XDA uses, injecting 12v into your phone instead of say 9v is not a good idea

You'd be better off buying some sort of cigarette lighter extension cable in my opinion. (Halfords do one with 4 sockets for about £7) You could route it under the trim and have it plug in behind the dash. The extensions I've seen also include an on/off switch on the plug which could be handy as the cigarette lighter socket is always on. This is what I did when I was faced with the same problem. I didn't want to start messing with hardwiring or chopping off plugs. Works well and looks neat. :)
