keep blowing brake light bulbs.

Featured Replies

the octy seems to have developed a tendency to blow a bulb every couple months, i wouldn't think this is normal. any ideas what might be the problem and how to solve?

Mine went the other week replaced it then few days later was told it wasn't working on the way to Edition 38, but was working on the way back. Confused.

I know that the "don't touch the glass" really applies to halogen headlight bulbs, but I was forever blowing sidelight bulbs when I got my car, in the end I made a point of not touching the new bulb and it's been fine ever since. I'm sure it's coincidence but you don't have anything to loose by trying it!

I think a poor earth can help bulbs die prematurely too?

i guessed the head light rule applied to all bulbs so have made a point of always handling them wearing latex gloves so i know that isn't the problem, or at least it isn't me holding the bulbs...

How would i know about the earth?

You need to stop pressing the brake pedal so hard. You're obvoiusly pushing too many electrons in to the bulb and the filament can't handle the pressure. :D

You shouldn't need to be careful handling the majority of bulbs (only the halogen ones). Regarding the earth, I guess your lights would flicker as you drove, or the indicators would light dimly when you brake.

Are you using good quality bulbs from a high turn-over place? (Otherwise may just be a batch of old/faulty bulbs)
