National meet - noise levels...

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

I've signed up to come along to your national meet at Bruntingthorpe which sounds like it should be an excellent day! I'm not a Skoda owner, but was invited along from the www.vx220.org.uk board... (I'll be the bloke in the black VX220 Turbo)

As there are a few places still available for the day, a friend with an Impreza mentioned he would be interested in coming. The only problem is noise... He's got a fairly modified STI5 which is putting out around 400bhp but has the usual huge exhaust that all Imprezas seem to have...!

As a lot of you seem to have modified your cars, I was wondering whether noise is a concern for anyone on here and what the policy is if he comes along for a noise test, then (provided places are still available) pays to go out if the car's ok... I presume Easytrack are probably the guys to ask, but thought someone might have already talked to them about this...?

Cheers,

Ross

I see from google that a previous bruntingthorpe day had a limit of 103 decibels. Although this may not be the limit on the day, it's a handy pointer for your mate... If his exhaust is running at 120 decibels, there's a good chance he'll need a silencer for the day. ;)

Says 100dB on the ATTACHMENT I posted earlier Jason :jab:

Edit - it does say this is @1m and equates to 102-103 @50cm ...

Thanks - looks like that's going to be a problem then...

What are the Skoda engines like in terms of noise/volume? I presume a lot of you have the 1.8 Turbo engine...?

Virtually silent until you stick an aftermarket exhaust on there. Even then you need to go full de-cat to break that noise limit I would say. Most folks on here have gone for a fairly moderate approach but DaveU might be best able to answer your question for the louder fraternity :D

well - us smoggy diesel drivers should be OK - I've got a powerflow decat and backbox on mine which has had sod-all effect on exhaust volume. I think even the milltek'y vRS octy boys have sub 100Db exhausts.

Believe it or not... Mine is 88db at 4500 revs! :D

I had it checked while I was at Haywards.

I hope their measuring gear is right :(

Dave, my RS was 95 with a Miltek at 5000rpm, induction came in at 98 :D. The H&S full decat came in at 95 @ 4000 rpm, 1m distance

120 db would make your ears bleed i'm sure

I'm guessing the 2 & the 0 are the wrong way around...

Ross,

Hello mate. Dont know if I know you but I work at AmD with John Thorne (whom I assume you know). Im the resisdent VX nutter at AmD and its usually my job to do everything from a Milltek to the full on stage 3. The Milltek is quite loud on the VX Turbo but nothing compared to soem ive heard. The Vauxhall Sports Exhaust is pretty loud.

I'll be along at Brunters waving the AmD flag and kicking out some smog. ;)
