Just a quickie...

Featured Replies

One week later... I'm still loving my Octavia :D

Have just passed the 700 mile mark, bedding her in properly - only started pushing her up to about 4 thousand revs gently on rare occasions (I noticed the service book said 1000 KM and not 1000 miles) and have avoided using full throttle.

Just a couple of questions...

Does anybody know the boost range for the Octy's turbo... I've felt it kick in at about 2000 revs (same as furby) but then I also get another surge about 3500... before I get to 4k and get frightened about raping the engine and slow down :o

I've been told that the turbo will cut out about 5 and half thousand revs... is this true - I've not taken her that high yet so I don't know.

Also, how many miles will I have to do before the turbo operates at full boost... again I've heard it's about 2000 but I'm just after confirmation.

Cheers everyone

Drive the engine as you would normally, don't baby it - thats the WORST way to treat a brand new engine...

Red rag to a bull...

:D :D :D

Ok thanks Tom

The TFSI engine produces quite good torque figures as standard so expect to see good pull from low down, but when on WOT the power will not really come in full until 4000RPM.

With a remap however...

Iwas told the same by my dealer when I picked mine up

The Turbo will be working all the time, just with varying amounts of boost depending on revs and throttle usage.

Red line is at 6,500 isn't (not sure as I have the TDI), so the turbo will still be working then.

Secret to 'running in' is not to let the engine labour; let it spin sweetly on part throttle than lug on full throttle; increase revs as you go; should be OK to use 4,500 - 5,000 by now with 700+ miles and at the rate you are going 6,000rpm next week!

Don't labour it don't scream it, and vary the speed every so often don't keep it at the same revs all the time, apart from that drive normally

Thank feck for that. I couldn't help myself after I got it :D

Can't say I've notice much difference myself during the first 3k miles. Feels much the same as always. Notice more difference between 95RON petrol and Tesco 99RON.

How can you labour this engine?! It just seems to pull from any gear from low revs so comfortably!

Ive been driving it as I would normally since new, have 700 miles on it now in just a week and a half. I always seem to take the 'scenic' route to places now... :D :P
