Rattling exaust

Featured Replies

When at least one person sits in the back of me '00 felicia the exaust rattles when its idling and at low revs while driving.

Anyone else got that problem/had that problem and what did you do?

Get it on a ramp, preferably a four poster as it keeps the suspension loaded, and see where it is knocking. It probably has a broken rubber or mounting. Is the system original?

yeah it is

yes, ours does it - since having a new system - the end of the pipe knocks against the rear valance (not all the time) - the support rubbers don't appear to prevent much in the way of sideways movement - they just stop it from falling on the floor !! - will probably add another rubber or a piece of wire to stop it moving sideways so much....

yh i had that i took it to 3 different garages . 1st one said i needed hole new exuast system 2nd one just put it bk on the rubber an it was fine for a while, thn 3rd one just got neew rubbers , prob just come off the rubber:D

ooh. my mate had the same problem but it was a corsa ( :/ yeah i know ) and has had 3 new backboxes XD still got the problem

Sounds very much like either rubbers or a system misalignment rubbing in the suspension (will be fairly obvious wear mark when on lift if so) to me too (used to have a mate who managed an exhaust centre at that).

common one this. needs a new mount, (or as i call them "cable tie")

haha brilliant

do they not burn from the heat?

good solution thou always carry a few for anything!

Hi my car was doing the same and I had a look at it today and one of the rubber mounts had snapped I put a new one on and it is ok now

Cable ties are great for holding exhausts on... the exhaust on my polo 1.0 was held up by a couple linked together.

Make sure you use the big beafy ones...

The exhaust would sometimes slip off, drop down and drag on the floor if i thrashed it though... lol

I can supply conventional looking diamond shaped exhaust rubbers with roller chains moulded inside.

I think there are two different types of rubbers. The pre 1993 models have a oval loop that is open in the middle and the later models have an oval loop that is formed into two triangles. My 2000 model had the pre 93 rubbers that let the exhaust swing freer and touch the bodywork. So may be worth getting new rubbers. Think i have seen them on ebay for about £2 each
