New (ish!) Member - Just Bought A New Octy VRs - Is the price right?

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

I've been a member for 2 or 3 years now but it's been so long since I posted anything I thought I'd re-introduce myself!

Been driving a Fabia vRS from new since January 2005 and have just traded it in today for a new Octavia VRs TDI.

Dealer gave me £7k for my car as a trade-in (34000 miles, standard spec, no extras) and I managed to get the Octy for £20k flat including the following extras:

Dual-zone air-con, rear electric windows and jumbo box

Rear parking sensors

18" 'Zenith' alloys

Xenon headlights & headlight washers

Auto dimming rear view mirror with rain sensor & light assistant

Metallic paint (Silver)

Electric sunroof (slide & tilt)

Cruise control

Maxi-dot trip computer

3 Years free servicing

The extras I chose were xenons, parking sensors and cruise control. All the others came with it as it was on their stock list (in case you're wondering why there's both a sunroof AND air-con!)

Do you think I got a good deal? Seems good to me but hard to judge considering all the extras it comes with!

Anyone got any input? Been completely slaughtered on another forum and need some TLC from my fellow Briskodians!!

Riight , first off is the trade in.

Skoda Fabia vRS

1.9TD Diesel 5-door Hatchback

6 Speed Manual Front Wheel Drive

Year: 2004 54

Mileage: 34,000

Estimated value of your car

Part-exchange Price:

Excellent condition:

£7320

Average condition:

£6630

Below average condition:

£5840

So 7k for your Furby seems reasonable.

List price for the Octy with all those options is £21k give or take a few quid , and the three years servicing is probably about £500 so you've effectively got about £1500 discount.

If you'd gone to a broker you'd have got the new car for another £500 less but then you might have struggled to get as good Part-Ex.

You haven't got the "best buy ever" but neither have you been ripped off so nothing to worry about.

By way of comparison I got £1900 off my Octy 2.0TDI elegance when the local dealer was doing them at cost price , but for a normal sale it's very unusual for them to make a sale with no profit margin at all.

Thanks Alex, good to hear some sensible talk for once!!

I know it's not the steal of the century but at the same time I didn't think it was a bad deal considering everything.

Just got quite sick of hearing 'too much money for a Skoda' and 'so many better cars for £20k' talk on the other forum! Nice to hear some support for a change!

Surely the main point is that you are happy, can afford it and are going to enjoy it,as Alex has just detailed it seems a reasonable deal, there will always be someone out there who says"i could have got it cheaper,or you should have bought this etc" Posting on less like minded forums will prove this.

Just enjoy it:thumbup:

I'm not being funny but it's a little late to go worrying about it now, if you had any doubts about the deal you should have taken time to consider.

That said it's not a bad deal, I've seen better and I've seen worse - What matters is if you are happy with it.

As long as your happy who cares in the long run!?

Seriously though you were happy enough with the deal to sign it and who cares what other people say about spending too much on a Skoda.

If i had enough to get me a MK2 Petrol vRS id do it in a shot

I couldn't agree more with everything you've both said. I'm not worried one iota about what I paid for it and I suppose I asked for all I got asking the same question on a non-Skoda orientated forum!

Didn't really have any doubts about the deal either at the time or now but I've never spent so much money on changing my car and it's a big jump. It's not everyday that you spend £20k (well... £13k after my p/x) on a new car is it? LOL.

To answer both of you though, I'm well pleased with the spec of the car and it drove just like I thought it would only better. Pleased with the colour too - never had a silver car before!

Great stuff - how long is the wait?

Great stuff - how long is the wait?

I pick it up sometime next week hopefully.

Can't be any later than that as the car has to be delivered before the end of September for the current offers from Skoda to stand. Going in this Friday to sort out documentation and delivery date so will have a better idea then.

Just make sure that you get some pictures up when you get it
