Newbie here. Buying advice please

Hellooooooo.

You all seem like a very friendly and knowledgeable bunch, so I wondered if I could pick your brains.

I have spent about 8 hours in the last 2 days reading through various posts on here (this place is addictive). Now I REALLY want to buy an Octavia. This is where the confusion starts!!!!!

Would I be right in saying that the vrs is the best for tuning etc ( I dont want an absolute speed machine, but want to keep my options open).

A couple main questions if someone could be good enough to answer for me please:

1- How does the 4x4 compare with the vrs

2- I am looking at buying one that is 2-3 years old as a brand new one is just too expensive for me. Should I look for a private sale (and save

private sale 4x4 or vRS depending on what you are used to...

4x4 has more grip.. vRS handles better.

dont forget the PD130s they can be pretty quick if you like that sort of thing.

Blimey that was quick!!!! Thanks ffelan.

What sort of money should I be paying for any of those models?????

You won't get a PD130 at that age :(

All depends on what you want really, 4x4 is all the rage for school runs, off roading at Tesco, RS is more of a drivers car

4x4 don't hold value that well, compared to the RS.

Have a look on www.skoda.co.uk they have a listing of all the secondhand ones at dealers. Search by model, age and body style to get an idea of price

Don't neglect anything with a 1.8T engine tho - there will be Elegances and L&Ks available too - just as tunable as the 4x4/VRS albeit with softer suspension (but more comfort). You pays yer money ...

And welcome

Just looked at skoda uk and seen a black vRS with 20,000 miles, 2001 year for

Where abouts are you? Am sure we could sort some demo drives in both?

Generally speaking, for A roads choose RS, for B roads choose 4x4.

Try and come along to the national day?

we can do that:D

Welcome Steveo

If you look at this thread , you may even be able to grab a lift if you ask nicely or certainly tail onto a convoy ;)

Depending on how "briskly" you drive, 2-3 hours drive (allowing for 30mins - 1 hour around M25 and the rest up the M1)
