I've had a search but had no luck

Does anyone regularly carry a dog in their superb. We are thinking of getting a dog later in the year, however am I going to need to trade in and get an octy estate and give up my luxuries - 2.5 v6 tdi in favour of a ruff engine...

I appreciate the boot wouldn't be very clever, however are there dog bags or crates that could go on the back seats?

Any suggestions most welcome

What size dog?

I regularly carry my Labrador in my Superb. I have a 'special' protective cover that clips to the rear seat headrests and covers the seat back and squab whilst allowing access to seat belt buckles through 'slots' in the cover. I restrain my dog by way of a dog harness that clips into the seat belt buckle. He's quite happy to then sit or lay on the back seat and in the event of an accident wouldn't become a 20 stone missile ;-)

Thats for an Ocy2, but cant see why it wont fit, they dont directly list them for Superbs, but thats prob because they assume owners will have a horse box for there dogs, what what...!!!

Then need some sort of restraint to attach dog to seatbelt.

The mrs will be well impressed - this was one of the sticking points about getting a dog.

Suppose only prob might be the distance between seats on the superb being quite a bit bigger than on octy, although surely it caters for shorter drivers of octy. I have mine full back in the superb, so prob not and issue

Yeah i think there fairly supple so will go a distance, you can get a doggy belt thingy me bob from halfrauds and the like.

'Special' means specially for dogs and not home made. They can be brought, along with harnesses, from all good pet shops and Hellfrauds but I bought mine from Aldi or Lidl or the like. I watch their specials on the internet and just pop in there when there's something I want. They often do pet accessories - about every three weeks or so and are much cheaper. I paid £1.99 for the harness and it's just as good as the RAC ones and £2.99 for the seat cover which is very hard wearing.

My dog is a westie.

I used to have the Octy with a rear seat nylon cover which was designed specifically for the car and fitted supremely well. Even had cut out velcro sealed openings for the hatchback boot anchor points and all 3 headrests were covered.

The other good points is that the dog could get into the foot-well for water.

I do have a seat belt type harness for him, this rather restricts him, so I rarely use it. Also being a small dog he has never come to any harm when he has slide off the seat into the back of the front seats.

The disadvantage of nylon seat covers is you still get dirt/hairs on the back of the front seats and in the foot-wells.

When I bought the superb I couldn't find anyone with the made to measure covers. I bought a hammock type for about £17. This isn't the best quality, is a real pain to take off, clean (they say not to wash it - I have) and the edges tend to curl up so doesn't protect all the seat.

Also my dog has learnt to get into the foot well and back into the hammock. It's very safe for emergency braking as he doesn't come crashing into the front seats.

If you can find a made to measure for the superb that is my recommendation, but it can be expensive. I'm not sure hammocks are sturdy enough for a larger dog.
