My vRs is in having some dents removed caused by gougers who threw a bin onto the rear of the car. Luckily 2 small dents. I noticed on the the courtesy 1.9tdi I have that the lights on warning buzzer comes on when you open the drivers door if dim or main beams are on. But only comes on in my vRS is dims are on. Is this a fault or do the main beams turn off eventually. Said I'd ask before contacting dealer. Now to look for the manual. Thanks.

Well if you have your lights on when your engine is off only the side lights work anyway don't they?

Let me try to explain.

On my car I have the following light settings

0 - low beam on when key in ignition turned (though manual says this is how you turn on side lights)

auto symbol - self explanatory, lights come on depending on light levels

sidelight symbol - sidelights come on

lowbeam symbol - for lowbeams, push forward for high beams

The manual says 2 things :

1. "An audible warning will sound if you withdraw your key and open the drivers door when vehicle lights still on"

I only get this warning noise when I take key out, open door, and leave sidelight on. If I leave the low beams on I get no warning noise, and when I exit the car I can see the low beams are on.

2. If a fault occurs in the light switch the low beams come on automatically. Well my lowbeams are on all the time when I turn the ignition unless I turn the dial to side beams.

So I'd like someone with an RS to check this. Do I have a faulty light switch.

I would have thought not as door contact determines when the warning light sounds and interior light comes on. So I would have though it either works or doesn't an it works for sidebeams. Still get interior light if low beams are on. Just no buzzer.

Does not work if you have coming home lights on as it would sound all the time.

Do you leave lights in Auto mode?

Do you have maxi-dot? There are various settings in there for lighting, it sounds like some things are not set the way you want them to be.

Went out to dealer...mechanic knew the story..all cars coming into Ireland are setup with day running lights. And that's the reason you get no buzzer. He offered to change it back. But I left it. Just thought something was wrong. I have my vRS 9 months today and done 6,666 km on it by time I got to garage this morning....spooky
