Fabia coolant leak!

Featured Replies

Hello all , my first time here, prompted by a very small coolant leak on my 53 plate fabia 1.4, cant seem to find where its coming from , can any of you guys point me in a possible direction, all hoses and expansion tank seem dry?

:o

How small is 'small'? Does the expansion tank drain from MAX to MIN in a day? A week? A month? Unless it's one of the first two (or maybe even just the first one), I'd be inclined just to top up regularly. Trouble is, the Fabia has an undertray, which makes it very hard to trace any drips back to where they came from (without one, you'd just trace a vertically upwards from the puddle on your drive!) Having said this, assuming yours is the MPi engine, I know some of the early ones (i.e. earlier than yours) had head gasket issues, which may even have been a recall issue - certainly a warranty repair. It may be worth just checking for mayonnaise under the oil filler cap to make sure you're not having any problems in that department...

Hope this helps!

PS - Mods: Should this thread be in the 'Maintenance & Performance' section?

Hi thanks for getting back, Its takes about 2 weeks to go from Max To below minimum, checked the oil and no signs of emulsification are evident, It a 16 v/v classic 1.4 (53 plate)

The 16v 1.4 doesn't have the head gasket issues of the MPi, AFAIK (piston rings are another matter!)

The only other places I've hear mention of being potential leak places are the hoses going into and out of the radiator - they can rub through on other parts close by. Unless anyone else has any better ideas, though, I'd just keep topping-up and mention it to your garage next time it's in for service... Of course, if you're a bit handy that way yourself, getting it up on some axle stands, and whipping off the undertray may reveal all!!!

I've just noticed a small puddle on the floor of my garage :( and on investigation it looks like its coming from the temperature sensor connection to the radiator.

I've noticed that I was losing water but it was only like half a cup full but this morning the header tank was noticeably low.

I've booked it in to the local Skoda stealers for next Tuesday.....

I had a leak on the sensor on the radiator and my friend tightened the switch up and that worked on mine so see if you can DIY save a bill :)
