passengerside glovebox rattle

Featured Replies

hi all . just a quick post to follow up my previous posts on this.

i have fixed and found a cure for the persistant rattle noise that comes from behind the glovebox on my fabia vrs.:)

If you have padded out and secured all your wires behind the glovebox and you have padded out the windscreen washer pipe tubing underneath the scuttle panel trim and you still have a rattle noise this is the fix

the fix is this= open the bonnet . look at the two bonnet hinges. you will see on each one of them a small black plastic block.

1).remove the passengerside plastic block

2).put some plastic or foam tape behind the bonnet stay locating clip .

hey presto the noise has gone!!!!!!!

the rattle appears to be caused by this plastic block vibrating against the base of the inner wing when the bonnet is closed causing inturn the bonnet stay clip to rattle .

this noise is transmitted into the car from behind the glovebox.

it took me ages to fix this noise but now i can say it has gone and i have no noises at all from the dashboard!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

the rattle that i have had for over a year has now gone

Ive got to do this. I have this really nasty rattle that this may fix...

Just removing the black plastic block stopped my rattle..... Just the gear stick rattle left to fix.

Alex

The gear stick rattle is the most annoying. Its like a drill!

I put some high density foam around the black block on the bonnet and the rattle has stopped. Thanks so much for pointing this out, without your help I doubt i would have ever found the cause of that rattle. Saved me a lot of headaches

For weeks I've been trying, without success, to locate the source of the low-revs rattle which I'd have bet my life was coming from somewhere around the glovebox. Having read your post I decided, with some scepticism mind you, to try the bonnet catch remedy. Eureka! it worked. Rattle no more. Thanks a million . Without your input I'd never have looked at the bonnet strut clip as a potential source.

I think I have the same rattle as this thread fixes.

The rattle occurs at exactly 1500rpm when slowing down in gear. It sounds like it's coming from the glove box but it's not.

Oh and it's soo frustatring when it does it....

is this the same thing?

It's really not that much trouble to have a go at fixing it. I just folded up a post-it note and rammed it behind the locating clip.

30 second job, if there's a chance it may cure your rattle it's well worth it...

  • 2 months later...

have just applied this fix and will see if it fixes it....will update later!

Never even knew this thread existed but i fitted the foam ages ago lol, stops it rattling, nicked some from work ;)

No sooner had I solved the "glovebox rattle", than another one developed. This one only occurred at low-revs. After much searching I finally ID'd the source - passenger seat belt anchor vibrating against the centre console. A bit of self adhesive foam padding between the two solved the problem. Happy days.

Didnt fix

Worked a charm for me - still a tiny tiny bit of noise - despite some foam tape both underneath on the metal strip and behind the clip - but a major major improvement!

barely noticeable now.

Many thanks for posting! - hope it's also posted on the common fabia problems sticky...

Cheers

Bas
