Ethos's Black grill guide

Looks good. Why did it turn out to be matt?
I starting spraying the lacquer. After 4 very light coats I left the lacquer to harden.

The last coat of laquer needs to be a full wet coat, not a light coat, otherwise you have to polish the laquer to get a high shine

It's not matt, just not quite as shiney as the proper paintwork.

Ooooh, I might try and polish it up then and see if it brings it out! :)

i cudnt get my grill apart :-(

I removed it from the car no probs, pushed in all 8 clips but it wouldnt budge, do you need to drill out the 4 riviots on the grill piece??

Thanks

It's a RIGHT pain I found, I pushed out a couple clips at a time and pushed the grill out. You don't need to drill out any riviots. I only used 1 or 2 flat head screwdrivers to get it out.

Only snapped one clip in the end too.

Took me about 30 minutes to do, no lie!! I nearly gave up, but keep persistant and it'll come off.

ok, i will have another go tomorrow, thanks ethos.

good tutorial mate making me want to do mine when weather is a bit better

just wondering if anyone has a picture with this done on a corraddo red car?

Just a tip but if you give the grille a polish with some autoglym super resin polish or some rubbing compound about a month after doing it you should get more of a shiney finish.

I had mine done by a local bodyshop this week. As my car was in for some work on the rear door after a little bump anyway, they did it for an extra £20. Looks boss.

Nice one, £20 is awesome.

I couldn't get a quote cheaper than £100+ from what I can remember.

Did they take the chrome foil off or just spray over the top?

I managed to get all the foil off and spray onto bare plastic.

Lovely job:thumbup:

They took all the chrome off first.

Ethos, Thanks for the guide. Used it as my motivation to fill time between dirty nappies whilst on paternity leave.

Martziniuk, Thanks for the stanley knife peeling tip. Just a little sore on the hands. Managed to cut them to ribbons peeling bits of chrome away.

Just hope that tomorrow is fair so that I can get the spraying done. :)
