Courtesey car warning

Featured Replies

Had my car booked in today to get the vent motors (probably) fixed. Had booked a courtesy car with the dealer. Said to bring along my insurance. Why, I asked. Because you'll be driving it on your insurance, they said, don't worry, they'll cover you fully comp as a matter of course.

Thought that I would check this with my insurer. Not covered they said, but no problem, phone us just before you get in the car and we'll pop it on the policy.

Arrived at garage 8:30 am. Phone insurer. Insurer can't add car to the policy because it was a 'higher risk'!

Most annoying. They only wanted to give me a 1.2 Fabia. It was brand new and risk was probably because of this. What courtesy car is going be lower risk than that, I ask myself.

Anyhow - word to the wise. Check your policy when you get a courtesy car. If I'd taken Skoda's advice I would have been driving their car 3rd party only...

I've heard this before. I tend to ring ahead whenever I want a car and make sure it's on their policy as my insurer will charge £25 for any admin done to the account :( If the garage doesn't offer it, I'll take my business elsewhere.

I got a courtesy car covered by Skoda, completely FOC

I got a courtesy car covered by Skoda, completely FOC

Yeah, so do I - normally they give me the car and then forget to charge me when I give it back

Having said that, if the work is under warranty I don't see why I should have to cover the cost of the car.

My sentiments exactly. I'd never pay for a courtesey car, except maybe the excess waiver.

thats standard policy over here in southern ireland!.....everytime you get a courtesy car you have to have a temp cover on your own insurance......first time it happend i was totally at a loss.....didnt know why he wanted my details!!.....here you just have to remember that it can take up to an hour just to get a temp change....by the time the insurance company answer the fone and they take your details!!!.....oh and if your car is ready early you have to go thru the whole deal again!!!

k:)

Whenever i got a loan car i always go on the skoda insurance. Try to drive as steady as possible though as the excess is £1000:eek:

This was a Skoda dealer but they didn't offer any insurance - they weren't overly helpful. Choice of places to take business elsewhere to are limited because it's the vent flaps that are the issue, my usual independent won't touch it. Guess that they could have offered me an extended test in one of their demonstrators.

TBH, for a £1000 excess though it hardly seems worthwhile going on Skoda's insurance if that's what the deal is...

Warranty is an AA one, not Skoda. car is 5yrs old.

Had a courtesy car before and my ex dealer charged a one off fee of £5 and the excess was quite high.

Also one dealer had access to the DVLA database so could check my driving license so quite impressed with that and another dealer i had to take my license in and have it photo copied.
