Collected yesterday

Featured Replies

Hi all,

First time poster on here, just collected my 1.9TDi Fabia 2 yesterday evening and I love it. Most I've ever spent on a car is £1400 on a pug 106 1.5D (which got p/x'ed for the furby), so this was a bit of a leap! Had a little drive around the area, really enjoying the drive, very comfortable, 'dance' stereo aint too bad for a factory stereo, car sits a bit high as most people have noticed, storm blue paint is stonking, and the engine is exactly what I wanted from the car, but...

what on earth did they do with the horn?!!? I've not found a good description yet, but imagine a squeaky fart crossed with one of those 20p buzzers you get in electronics kits and suchlikes and you're getting close. Lets just hope I don't have to use it too often (unlikely, with the lane discipline of some of the drivers around where I live)!

Besides that, anybody got any suggestions for looking after the paint on a new car? What's the factory wax like? Anything I should be doing before winter really sets in? This car's gotta last me!

Anyhoo, just thought I'd chuck in my ha'pence worth!

Cheers,

Bryn

Glad you are enjoying your new Furby, I know what you mean about the horn its the same on the Roomy!

I never use a car wash or jet wash.

I have only used the normal wash and wax at the moment, I used a new quality brush with plenty of suds and water and I wet the car before brushing it..

First thing I did was to spray the Ally wheels with a protector to stop the brake dust from etching into the finish, now they wash off really easily.

My Fabia only ever had Mer on it and I was pretty happy with the finish on that.

Enjoy your new car,

Welcome to briskoda

In contrast to sponges, lambswool wash mitts feature a deep pile that enables particles of dirt to be drawn safely away from the surfaces being washed. Moreover, because the pile is fairly loose, particles of dirt can easily be rinsed out. These benefits can be reinforced by using the two bucket method, in which the first bucket is filled with suds and the second with rinse water. The idea behind this method is to load the mitt with suds, wash one panel of the car and then rinse the mitt thoroughly in the second bucket to release any trapped particles of dirt, before reloading the mitt with suds and moving on to the next panel.

Good stuff, thanks!

We've had a Roomster 2 for 3 months now  and it received the full works this weekend: triple wax followed by turtle wax sealer. However my better half, having read, marked and inwardly digested the handbook, tells me it advises against using a shampoo. To protect the wax finish from the factory just water is recommended - so he's done that, with great care to soften the dirt first.

Well worth looking after the paintwork. Our 93 Satin Red Astra saloon (dear old Chugaboom) has been waxed 3-4 times a year since we bought it in 96 and it looks great - and we're by no means out there with a bucket every weekend.

The horn belongs to Mr Toad (Poop, poop!) as I've said somewhere on the Roomie site! :o

Welcome to Briskoda and enjoy your new car!

Wow, no shampoo? Oh well, will save a bit of £££. I expect my dealer will try to sell me Diamondbrite when I collect my Roomster Scout, any opinions on whether it's worth it?

Hmm, since I had to park mine near some trees within 24hrs of getting it, I think it'll need a bit more than just water, but I'll give it a try. :o Perhaps we should adopt 'poop poop' as the formal roomy/07 fabia greeting?

Yes some horns are a bit ** I used to have a Hi/Lo pair that I moved from car to car (Fiestas) as they normally only had a single horn - maybe you need to get a kit of bits together and do this to your car. Check out what the "top end" model has and use its bits plus some extra wiring and a relay. I didn't use a relay, just hoped that the inevitable burnt wiring and welded contact would never happen - and it didn't but that was not smart or wise just lucky I only ever used the horns sparingly as you should do but don't do as I did, you might not stay lucky!!

Welcome to the site , and enjoy the Furby!
