Should I purchase my ex fleet Octavia vRS

Featured Replies

Hi Experts,

I'm in a dilemma and hope that somebody can offer some advice.

Due to the fact that company car tax is on the rise, and I've been asked to work from home, and my Company's lease on my company car '54 plate Black Magic Ocatavia vRS' has expired, I'm toying with the idea of taking the cash alternative from my company, and buying my own car.

Out of curiosity I asked the Lease company for a 'buy-it-now' price to purchase the Octavia outright, they said £6.300.00. Is it worth it? I've had the car since new it only had 7 miles on the clock when I took it, it now has 88K, however it has never ever failed me, the only problems my car has had is the rear wash/wipe hose popped off the fitting, and the plastic bootlid trim, (internal) keeps dropping off. It is bang up to date on the servicing, Skoda main dealer every time, new cambelt 6K miles ago, new Continental Contact Sport tyres 2 months ago, and has it's first MOT last week so 12 months MOT, also at this time they put brand new discs, & pads all around, also it did come with some pretty nice factory fitted extras when I ordered it back in 2004, so is it worth it? It's in great condition.

Here is the car

Black Magic 54 Octavia vRS

ESP - Factory Fitted

Sat Nav - Factory Fitted

Parking Radar (rear) - Factory Fitted

Cruise Control -Factory Fitted

Buy It Now £6300

Many thanks:O

Sounds like a good deal to me, as you know the history of the car, & how it's been driven etc. I would snap their hands off.

But that doesn't stop you trying a bit of haggleing first to see if you can get it a little cheaper. ;) ;)

whatever you decide hope you get the car you want, let us know the outcome.:D

Sounds like a go-er.

buy, buy, buy:thumbup:

Personally, I'd be tempted to buy it but would be haggling them down. Glass' reckons the following px price for your car:

Skoda Octavia vRS

1.8 Petrol 5-door Hatchback

5 Speed Manual Front Wheel Drive

Year: 2004 54

Mileage: 88,000

Part-exchange Price:

Excellent condition: £5080

Average condition: £4540

Below average condition: £3990

One thing to check is whether your company have made the final payment on the car. That can make a difference to the price the lease company want. Otherwise the lease company will be trying to get that back as well as the auction price.

A few years ago I bought my company Saab when I was made redundant. Our office manager told me to wait a week whilst they completed the end of lease documentation. It made quite a difference to the price the lease company quoted.

For - known reliable car that you obviously like

Against - price is too high; it looks to me like the leasing company are quoting by charging you rather than your employer the lease termination fees.

I've tried looking up mine on glass and the stupid thing doesn't even recognise a vrs model  .

How did you manage to find it Chris?

Go through the >shudders< Vauxhall web site, Matt. Owners -> Value your car.

Nice Mr Vauxhall has paid the subscription to Glass' so it also means you can put in an accurate mileage as well to get a realistic figure :D

Chris

Nice one Chris  .

Not sure I'd be happy with the figures given though.... 3.5k gone in a year, gulp!

Just goes to show the difference mileage makes as his car is newer than mine but over double the miles!

i just did mine

£4090 for it dream on! i paid almost double that for it

Sounds a very well spec'd car.

Pay what you think its worth and as said make sure that the final settlment has been paid off.

Most Octy's i know of dont have alot of options added.

BUY :)

I would suggest that if it has been a good reliable car and that you know the histroy it is going to be worth a bit of a premium to you. I would suggest that you go for it and haggle hard

good luck

I'd go with the idea of buying it, certainly. But see if they'll budge on the price first :D

Looses them some hassle as well, so it's in their interests too. I'd get back to them armed the Glass's price and see what happens....

Steve

Just bought a 54 VRS 93k, company owned for £4,500, so would think a few quid off wouldmake it a better buy. Knowing history is a bonus, assuming you have looked after it ;o)

What is ESP?

Mine has a button abovr CD with esp i think Cheers.

Sounds like a good price that :)

ESP - a pretty good explanation from VW: Volkswagen UK > Models > ESP

Steve

I've ragged the bo11ocks off my company Octy vrS. Only you know how you've treated yours?
