Advice please on felicia

Featured Replies

Hi all i tried to post in tech but not allowed dont know if i need more posts before allowed.

Anyways,

I went to view a felicia diesel, garage bill says good deal done when he got it but,

Suposedly stood on drive 6 months,

He has new mot but i asked for the advisory notice sheet and it says one rusting brake pipe, not a biggy brake discs worn not biggy but advice needed on constant velocity gaitors both worn, im not tech but how big job and cost please?

Bloke says they been like that a year so gear change noisy as you pull off after each gear.

The engine has a good deal of oil on it and there was a drip after my short run.

Bloke asked as soon as i looked under the arches are you a dealer!!!!!!!

Thats when he chose to mention the gaitors.

said i had had my value out of the run around the block twice... Go Figure!!

My father ran me through and although bloke said yeh ok when i asked after the advisory notice my dad had heard him say F*"* Me!!

Seams to think i would just look and buy.

Its at £450 reserve is £500 its on r plate 80k had belt done service book so sounded well to have a look at but as said after looking oh and drivers carpet soaking.

He wants as much as he can get, says 24 watching and another coming to view, yeah ive had 40 odd viewing stuff nothing says they will buy.

Your thoughts greatly appreciated,

Oh log book not back yet as it had his private plate on it and waiting for return of logbook with this reg on, he showed me the green slip and hopes it turns up today.

Sorry for rant.

Thank you James

firstly, you cant post on 'ask a tech' because you aren't a freedom member..... £12 per year.... you know it makes sense.... :D

anyway, enough of the freedom pimping :o

right, brake pipes will be the biggest job on that, dont even attempt it yourself, get a garage to do it, shouldn't cost too much..

it's perfectly normal to have plenty of oil on the outside of vw engines, in fact if it were spotlessly clean i would be more worried

cv boot(gaitor) are only about a fiver each. but then to do it the driveshaft has to come out and be dismantled which adds to the labour cost

imho 500 notes aint too bad for that

Car sounds quite sound... i also need a CV boot doing on mine but havn't got round to it yet.

What do you mean by a noise when changing gear? like a clunk?

He sounds like a bit of tw*t if you ask me! Not a good attitude if you're trying to sell a car.

But good price for the work that had already been done on it. Felicias thrive on a good service!

Would check out the oil drip if i were you, bit of oil around places is good as stated, but a drip is bad!

Could be something simple like bottom drain plug leaking or maybe sump gasket job (not fun, bout 20 bolts some of them hard to get to, but easy enough), or it might just need an oil changed and new filter.

But i would definately be very cautious with this one... judging by the guys way of dealing with it... and not telling about the gaitors by choice!!

good luck!!!

Thanks Peeps,

I thought the blokes attitude stunk.

If the car was sound i would have offered £600-£650.

If he didnt want that then i would let it run and see if i got for less.

But bloke said he had no leaks and mat says otherwise.

Lots of oil and if its a plug then yes a bit of oil on the drive.

He had washed the drive i noticed in pics.

But if oil only shows when run then its higher up than the sump.

I think ill keep looking,

He may get a shock when no one bids as we all watch stuff with no intention of bidding.

All the ebst,

james

to be honest, i wouldn't pay more than £300 WITH TEST for that, when its obviously going to need cv joints/gaitors, sunroof or windscreen seal, and a oil leak cured.

really, i'd walk away. fast.

plenty around. keep looking.

Yep, i agree with the last two posts, walk away.

At least you took the trouble to view the car before the auction finished which is always advisable.

Thanks all,

Plenty more about.

It sounded so good and then viewing, just shows the importance of in the metal.

The clonk was what he said had been there a year and said it was a gaiter for the gear stick.

The cvs looked ok as knew to check them, but after asking for the advissory notice and he begrudgingly fetching it chucking me it sarcasticly saying its a long list.

But on there it said both cv joints worn.

Very Strange.

I love this feature of the new M.O.T its only a little box but if you know to look for it and if it says yes for was advissory issued you know to ask for the seperate sheet that tells you.

All the best,

Oh This should be the link...

1998 SKODA FELICIA GLI D MAROON DIESEL ESTATE - eBay Skoda, Cars, Cars, Parts Vehicles (end time 01-Oct-07 21:00:00 BST)

Yeah, i'd wak away just because the guy sounds a right idiot.

I think you correct to walk away. Plus, ebay description isn't accurate, it didn't pass its MOT with no problems! Sounds like too much money even at £450.

i always judge a car by the person selling it.

This guy sounds like a *****. Walk away there are plenty of Felicia's about at a reasonable cost.

yep walk away

find another felly

the guy's attitude is damn wrong!

sombody should report him to ebay...

That's interesting, i didn't know that, thanks.
