Just ordered a Fabia Sport 1.4

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Im new here and to Skoda's :), I have placed a order for a Skoda Fabia 1.4 Sport should be getting it next week if all goes well.

I have a few questions though, the sport is 75BHP and the Elegence is 100BHP but its the same engine? Is there a way it can be altered to get the 100BHP if I took it to my mechanic friend who works in the VW garage?

I read that the sport isnt very sporty and that its overpriced but I got a good deal on it and its loads safer than my Seicento I currently have lol so dont bash me :)

I was looking at the elegence models of the 1.4 and 1.9 TDI but they were outta my price range and they only had 14" alloys but bigger engine??

Hope to hear back,

Thanks

Steve

I could be talking out of the back of my trousers, but they are two very different engines. The 75PS is an updated old 16V engine, whereas the 100PS is really the newer engine being cleaner into the bargain and having FSI and fancy pressed on lobs on the hollow cam shaft. It is for that last reason I avoided it like the plague back when it was launched - but time has proved me wrong as all the newer VAG petrol engines seem to be going down this route along with the FSI - with no reported problems as far as I have heard.

Now, the bad news, you might just get a bit grumpy about buying a Sport and finding its got a Slug's engine - sorry for that information but my wife used to have a 1.6 16V 90PS Zetec engined Fiesta before she chose her Polo - she did not want a Diesel and I thought the FSI would be gutless at low revs, so she got the 1.4 16V 75PS - I reasoned that as the maximum power was lower than the FSI then the "grunt" and so the drivability would be more acceptable. THIS WAS A BIG MISTAKE. The 1.4 16V 75PS has all the old weaknesses of the original 16V engines (looooo low end torque) and none of the benefits of 16V ie higher power than equivalent 8V - okay that last bit is mainly due to no one launching 8V engines now. But I will say this much, my wife's sister had a 1.6 Polo about 10 years ago and it was a terrible engine when compared with the low end market norm ie Ford Zetec etc - MPG was even rubbish. My daughters early 2002 Ibiza 1.4 8V is a joy to drive (if you are deaf) performance wise okay lighter car but far more responsive engine even if the max power is a lot lower.

So, maybe you need a 1.6 16V engine transplant (a bit of a waste as your car will be brand new). I think my wife would LOVE her car to get a 1.6 16V transplant and then along with its Cupra bushes (when fitted correctly!) her car would be the car it should always have been - and quite acceptable to live with! I am not talking about breaking the sound barrier here - but just having a car that is easy and pleasant to drive - that is the way they are meant to be, hey its 2007 not 1997.

I thought the Fabia Sport had a 1.2l engine?

I must be confused.
