Wait for it................ £650 best price I could find.

Help!

You are the same sex, age, length of driving experience as me and I also have no previous claims or points. Your car is slightly newer but I do a couple of thousand more miles and need business use. I do have 4 years no claims though and put my other half on the insurance as it seems to bring it down!

However, a strange thing happened to me last week - I got my renewal through (Admiral) and expected a joke, like they always try it on expecting that you will just renew without shopping around. When I did shop around as I always do, not only was this renewal quote the cheapest.... but the cheapest by OVER £100!! I checked the details incase something was wrong, but it wasn't! :D

My quote?.... £333

I can also drive any other car third party and have £150 involuntary excess

Can someone explain this then!?!

I can't admiral having received my renewal notice. Explained that I needed to increase my annual mileage from 6,000 to 8,000 and needed to remove the ex-girlfriend. (Clean license, clean accident record same age etc)

Result............... Price moves DOWN by £12. I know it's not a lot, but why down. I was bracing myself for an increase!

I'm with Elephant (£402 FC) but my previous insurer RAC offered me a quote of £642. Their broker then offered me "a fantistically low quote" at... £620.

He was heart broken when I told him what Nelly had quoted me.

Got to shop around...

I put my details into Confused.com and got a range of quotes from about £300 to £7000!

Totally off the point, but I don't understand how insurance groups work:

We replace SWMBOs Perodua Nippa (Group 3) with a Fabia 1.2 Classic (54hp) (Group 1) and her insurance went up. Surely getting a car in a lower insurance group should make your insurance go down???

04 plate vrs with a few mods as below.

Was with Greenlight and they quoted me £572 renewal which I thought was taking the pee a bit so I called Chris Knott who quoted me £420. :D

Lets think which one I will be taking, this is based on buying over the net, so will be phoning up this week to check this out.

Worth making sure they are all quoting for like-for-like cover. Some companies are getting devious and making things like courtesy cars add-ons to the policy to bring the price down. Also beware of 10-month accelerator policies which you pay a premium for, but do build NCB's quicker....

Chris

Elephant don't insure if any modifications have been made though.

They insured me on the vRS for two years with Mods?

Ring Chris Knott I reckon - mods declared, fully comp, 8 years no claims, protected NCB, No convictions, one non-fault accident a couple of years ago, £421.00. Surprisingly, my intercooler did not up my premium. I'm 33.

Well Time for a career change me thinks:confused:

Not true that Elephant won't insure you with mods. They will insure you with most mods, they just won't cover the mods, i.e if you have an accident they wont pay to replace the fancy alloys, they'll only replace them with standard.

(This is the same with all Admiral group companies- Admiral/Bell/Elephant/Diamond)

Try Bell as they are usually excellent with low no claims.

Also you say you can't get a re-quote with admiral. Just be sneaky and change your date of birth by one day and it'll let you get a quote. It will always be cheaper than your renewal 'cos they are sneaky barstewards.

Then just phone them up, tell them what the quote came out with when you 'accidentally' put in the wrong DOB and they will normally match it. I've done this twice now.

For reference, I'm 26, my VX220 cost me less than £600 using my 5yrs NCB but I insured the Golf (150bhp TDI worth ~£6.5k) with zero NCB for £280!

The wife insures her Fabia vRS for ~£200!
