Cheap Insurance for modded VRS

After getting a few mods done to my Fabia VRS, namely a Angel Tuning remap to 180bhp, Jabbasports rear ARB, Seat Cupra pd160 air intake pipe and a Green cotton panel air filter, i decided that i had better tell my insurers just to be on the safe side.

I was insured with e-car insurance for just under £300, fully comp, 8 years NCB (protected) but when i told them about the mods they couldn't quote me so i did a search on here and found 4 well reccommended names: Sky, Adrian Flux, Chris Knott and Brentacre. I phoned all 4 and these were my quotes:

Sky (Tel. 02083 645 500): £441 with £350 excess and £60 windscreen excess

Adrian Flux (Tel. 08000 83 88 33): £408 with £350 excess

Chris Knott (Tel. 0800 917 2274): £345 with £200 excess

Brentacre (Tel. 01792 650 933): £314.70 with £250 excess and £60 windscreen excess.

All of them understood about mods and no one asked any stupid questions about why i'd done the mods.

Chris Knott said they will beat any quote for a moded car by 10% if you can give them the quote in writing showing the mods in question.

Brentacre said i could carry on modding the car with no increase in premium i.e. alloy wheels, coil overs etc infact anything as long as the BHP does not go over 180.

The guy at Brentacre (John) said they like doing good deals for the people at Briskoda and asked me to pass on his thanks to all you guys for recommending him. I would've felt dead tight asking him for a written quote and then going back to Chris Knott which would've saved me another £31, as he was a really decent bloke and i wasn't expecting to get it this cheap anyway.

Hope this helps you guys and thanks again for the recommendations!

p.s. Phoned John at Brentacre about 5pm and all the paperwork including temporary covernote arrived before 9.30am next morning.

mac67.... you just saved me some phone calls

I'm in the process of modding my octy vrs at the moment... fitted a Milltec (IHI 2.75) turbo back exhaust at the week end, and booked into jabba for a custom remap early Nov.

thanks

Brentacre are by far the best I've dealt with so far. I normally speak to Kelly who's a nice guy and no need to explain much to them as I'm sure they've heard it all before. They also matched the best quote I got at renewal time by dropping the price they sent me by just under £500. I phoned them not long ago to add my Forge FMIC and Sachs Clutch and said I'll be phoning to add more soon and he said that's not a problem. I currently pay £888, 21 with 2yrs no claims so not bad at all and as you say as long as you don't go over the power you've told them you can add pretty much anything you like without having to pay a premium. Also my brother went over to them recently and has 9 points and they said don't worry too much about the points and beat his closest quote by nearly £300. Big

ROFL

but I have to say, very useful post. this might save me some pennies. Could we maybe agree that if you make an entry you could try adding info about

how much

how they deal with claims,

guaranteed car hire

what about excess

windscreen cover

any repairer or authorised only.

limited on mileage

legal expenses covered

forced protected NCB

what mods the allowed for that quoted price

agreed value

who your contact is and how to contact him

  • 1 month later...

Sky: £1100

Adrian Flux: couldn't compare!

Chris Knott: £1054

Brentacre: £1400

lol - so I went to the usual suspects...

Swiftcover - £767

Directline - £710

so these specialists... are they specialists in being expensive?

I'm 21, two years NCB, no accidents/claims/points, and the closest job is electrician/lighting fitter.

AvRS seems to be getting a good deal from them though?

and that's a completely standard car!

The clue is in the title of the thread, but age, amount of NCB and location will also be deciding factors.

I know that :P

I just can't figure it out, since I can't remember a single car crime in my street, so I can't see how the location can be bad

I don't think they narrow it down to just one street, there may be a high risk area within a few miles of you and your street gets tarred with the same brush.... perhaps.... maybe?

there's not a way of getting this information, is there?

You could try asking your insurance company what info they have on your area, freedom of information and all that!

Maybe worth giving Quinn a ring, I've been with DL/Tesco for years but they wanted an extra £1000 to add my 18 yr old daughter taking it to £1230. But Quinn did it for £506, no windscreen cover (extra £30 ) but I've never had one smashed in 20 years.
