Fabia 1.4 16V 100 CP very noisy....

Featured Replies

Hi!

Is 1.4 16V 100 CP a noisy engine ?

Mine is quite noisy, when I am driving 140-150 km/h the noise level is quite high, u can hear the engine screaming (the noise is quite nice, sporty :-), but sometimes I want to also listen to some music :-)) )

Is this something common to 1.4 16V engines ?

Is there anything I can do to reduce the noise?

Also, when starting it sounds like a quite Diesel... strange...\

I have just 33.000 km

Regards,

Radu

Radu,

I don't recall mine being particularly noisy - I have a different air filter now, so it makes a bit more noise now, but only when accelerating. When cruising (at any speed) it seems very quiet to me...

Hmmm.... Maybe the interior trim for reducing the noise is different for our cars....the one between engine compartment and cabin...

So, when u drive 140 km/h u do not hear the engine? I have 4000-4200 rot/min at that speed... hmmm... ok, engine is normal to be heard at that speed, but the general noise level in the car I thnik is quite high...I feel like racing .... now I am thinking that maybe the noise is comming from the tyres also... Dunlop Sport... hmmm.... I will try to drive another 16V to compare the sounds :-)

After changing the air filter you noticed some performance improvement?

Thx

Radu

Radu, the Dunlop tyres on my 4X4 are the major source of noise in the car on some types of road surface. You could try sticking sound insulation material under the bonnet to reduce engine noise, and change the tyres to a different brand when they wear out.

Thanks DGW. I have some insulation material there, it is by default on Comfort.

Another simple question regarding 1.4 16V is if you also hear the engine at idle speed? I mean when u are waiting at the semaphore, u hear the engine running?

Thx

Couldn't comment on the engine...

However, are you running the standard stereo head unit? If you want to hear music over the engine, the cheapest way to achieve this is a better head unit... :)

Mind you 140kph is about 90mph so it is probably going to be noisy at that speed. IMHO the TDI can be quieter at motorway speed than the 1.4 16v I tried/

The 16v engine is quiet till you reach about 4000 rpm when it starts getting noisy. Any engine that runs that fast will seem noisy, take a TDi that high, you'll see what I mean. When idling it should be audable (is that spelt right?) but not too loud. The 1.2's are good for quiet idling, very quiet.

Thanks for reply. I though that my car has a problem.... at least it is just the noise that make me unhappy with this car, everything else is just perfect ;-)
