I rang Autostation about them a while back, can't remember exact figures but they offered me discount straight away. (Think they had them in stock a long while and couldn't shift them).

Try The Roof Box Company: sales and hire of Thule roof boxes and other brands of roof boxes, roof bars and bike carriers. I just bought 2 bike carriers and roof bars for my octavia vrs for £180. The bars were Thule (a good make I believe) and the carriers were Atera (you could also get Atera bars for the same price). They were the cheapest I found online and were very quick with delievery (Order Monday and recieved Wednesday even though I only did their standard delievery).

I managed to fit a high-level Paddy Hopkirk rack to the back of my Fabia, however it collapsed causing a bit of damage. I reckon it collapsed as a result of the design of the rack itself rather than anything else (I couldn't get the restraining straps tight enough), but I've not dared try anything else since. Didn't have any issue with the spoiler though if that's any help, and being high-level I didn't need a light board...

You thought about a removable towbar? (I know about the VRS and towbars)

I used on of these: Thule EasyBase 949 - Thule Web

Cheeper than the bike carrier, can carry more weight and you can use it for other things than your cycle. I just bent 2 bits of metal for the tyres to sit in and bolted them down into the holes, so much stronger than other cycle racks you see.

The vRS isn't type-approved for towing, so anything like this is illegal...

I have used the two methods: First roof rack and now removable towbar (thule euroclassic) with VRS bumpers... But ever Thule.

See pics.

lordy!! anybody would think i was trying to attach a jet engine to it!! all i want is to carry my mountain bike!!....looks like it will be the boot for me!!:)

k:)

I thought about getting a carrier but was put off roof bars as they look poo and the whole tow bar illegality and collapsing rear carriers thing means I chucked them in the back. I was surprised as I had an A3 before and for some weird reason the 2 mountain bikes went into the fabia easier??? I just put a few packing blankets in between.

The Fabia seems to swollow bikes quite well if you know how to put them in. Have had 4 downhill bikes (A lot bigger than your normal bike) And 2 peoples weekends race kit in the back of mine.

We go to centre parcs a lot so carry bikes. I fitted a bosal tow bar and thule cycle carrier bolts onto the tow ball. Very easy and works a treat. Plus the bikes are away from the car body so you dont get scratches on your paintwork if the bikes move during transit. As for the legal side of having a tow bar on it i dont see the problem unless your towing.

I actually suspect that it is not type approved for towing. Classing it as illegal for attaching a bike carrier sounds a touch extreme.

A bike rack won't fall off this, they're much better off the towbar than anywhere else. I have the most fantastic carrier for 2 bikes on a towbar - it's just a shame neither Sciencebird's or my cars (sorry it's FranV8) have towbars to fit it!

I would have thought the reason for type approval issues on the vRS would be somewhere around rear suspension settings and ride height.

^^ :ne_nau: You're probably right...

I found it easier and cheaper to buy a trailer for our 2 bikes. Gives easy access to boot, no scratches and useful for other things!

Bike in a bike bag on the back seats for me :D

is it not a bit of a hassle putting it in a bike bag first?.....think it is really going to be open the boot push the seats down and horse it in!!....just hope the motor doenst get too filthy!! :(

k:)

Not really a lot of hassle, take the wheels off, lower the seat down and shove it in the bag then onto the back seats. I think its actually a bit less hassle as it saves wasting time worrying about getting grease and mud everywhere :)

Plus it saves hoovering out all the dried mud when you're home

One top tip for people who throw the bikes in the back is to use an old quilt cover and put the bike and wheels inside it before chucking it in the boot, it keeps all the crap inside the cover and is cheaper than a bike bag.

Thinking about a rear mounted bike rack but can't decide between a high mounted one and a low mounted one. Any thoughts or experience?

My main concern with the lower mounted one is rear visibility.

Also how do you fit a trailer board onto the Fabia - found the hole to pass the cable through but stumped as to where to plug it in!!!!

Any polite, constructive suggestions most welcome.

i got a good one from argos.

cost me £40

and can carry two heavy downhill bikes, and a jump bike at the same time.

only problem is you have to tie the straps down, otherwise at high speeds down the dual carrage ways they flap alot against the paint work and mark it. So just be careful with that.

Good luck.
