Featured Replies

Good evening all!

Hope your all having a good start to the weekend .

Been looking for a vRS forum for a while and decided to register with you guys!

I have a prob with my car and was wondering if you guys had a problem like or silimar to it and might be able to help me..

Here goes haha!!!...

Purchased an '04 vrs with 58k on clock (Full Skoda History) Cars running fine BUT about every 6 weeks the cars lost coolant! the level has dropped to below minimum and my Cooland light is beeping and flashing. This tended to happen first thing in a morning..turn engine on..lights go out on head unit then beep the coolant light stays on flashing.. 10 mins into a journey if i was to turn engine off and back on it wouldnt come back on.... I took it back to the garage where i purchased it from and they said they would pressure test it.. so for 3 days they tested and no signs of problems..they just topped it up again.

Ive physically checked car whilst its been running for leaks and cant find any..no water from exhaust and ive checked in with the oil to see if head gasket has gone! im really worried because this car is a beauty!

I hope some of you might be able to help me here!

Many thanks :alien:

if the last three letters are tkv get rid now its my old one, don't know about the problem but i am sure someone will be along with a suggestion soon enough:thumbup:

Mine used to flash the coolent light on every cold morning... but it never lost any in the 80k that I owned it..... the sensor just seemed to misbehave on cold mornings occasionally......

If you've actually had to top it up alot, you may have a small leak somewhere.....

Hi all, Nah mine ends with 3 totally different ones to that! Its really worrying because the car IS loosing coolant..ive had the car just over 3 months and its needed topping up about 3 times...im a bit unsure about taking it to skoda because they charge a bomb in labour charges..even if they are looking at it for an hour they will probably do what the garage did where i purchased it from .

Might be an avenue im going to have to explore though!

I'd be tempted to take the under tray off for a few days just to see if there is any evidence of coolant left on the ground after parking up . It could be getting caught in the undertray and then blown out once the car starts moving ?

Exhaust colour ???? if very white ( as does with high concentration of redex)suspect anti freeze getting burnt. Two things do that - brake fluid and anti freeze .

Get a new cap for the coolant container!

:) Does it run OK? How high does the temperature guage go?

checked under the oil cap?

the pink antifreeze can be notoriously difficult to spot when there is a leak , i agree with taking the undertray off and have a good look around underneath , leave overnight etc , check all the hoses and anywhere that has coolant for any crusty pink staining

also check the front carpets inside the vehicle for dampness , as the heater matrix could be leaking

Thanks for all these tips guys! im going to print this out and go investigate tomorrow morning!

I will keep you posted!

Thanks again

small leak in some hosing? Pressurises and escapes. Take a good look at anywhere that might be leaking. Suspect any stains on any hoses..

Take off the undertray and park over some scrap white paper - look for drips on it in the am....

HTH

test drove one 2 days ago coolant light was on in that one too

I would guess a faulty thermoswitch gasket in the radiator is to blame (it can be found if you look down in your engine bay on the right side when you look down on the radiator after having opened the bonnet) .. Change the gasket, or simply re-tighten it might just do it? :-)
