RS TDI or TDI140 w/ DSG?

Featured Replies

Hi,

I`m looking at buying either a RS TDI or a TDI140 with the DSG box, is there any issues i should be aware of?

I currently have Fabia Combi 1.9TDI, and drive about 55.000km/35000miles a year.

How is the ride in the RS compared to the normal Octy over longer stretches?

Most of my driving consists of motorway, so maybe a little overkill with the DSG, but still nice. Any views on what to choose? - good/bad?

How is the fuel economy IRL compared to the 1.9L unit?

Anything else?

Best Regards, Michael

Get the VRs. It's quicker and looks better.

The ride on the TFSI is good, even on 18" wheels.

Hmm, ok.

The price difference is around £3500 here in Denmark, and on yellow plates - without back seats. (Silly tax system!) RS TDI is £25K on yellow plates here in DK, and £40K with back seats.

Will have to see what the dealer wants to give in P/X, and also bank and insurance.

140 DSG is a very good car - will do all that anyone really needs it to do and you would get a better spec and fuel consumption for your money. If looks really matter you could go for the 140 dSG sport.

I have a current problem with my DSG box (see other thread) but I believe problems with these boxes are very rare.

Hi,sorry for being so late i'm only new.You could have your cake and eat it if you wait until mid '08,I have been informed by the Irish importer that the Vrs tdi is getting the amazing DSG box!! If you cant wait, spec up a tdi140 Sport with DSG and get a remap.I have 120,000kms on mine and the thing hasnt missed a beat.(400Nm of torque!!!)

Yeah, will have see what insurance says to the RS TDI - maybe i should make myself satisfied with the 140 DSG. :D

I personally wouldn't be taking the word of an importer on such matters. As far as I am aware Skoda have no plans to put the DSG in either of the VRs models. I am guessing because it is encroaching on VW / Audi territory...

Agreed; although the ride is better with Koni FSDs; but then your roads in Denmark are better maintained than UK so this ought to be less of an issue.

Hey; I wish I could take out my rear seats and save 30% on the cost of my car, plus it will be 50kg lighter so go faster!

Seriously on the main question; I think it boils down to how much do you want the DSG box, personally I'm a manual g'box fan and there are some interesting comments on the DSG by Evo magazine (Homepage | evo) who have had Golf GTI and R32s both with the DSG 'box; they are not convinced about it.

If you DO want the DSG, as already suggested, get the 140 TDI Sport and remap it to 170PS (the same as the vRS), although the torque curve is not as strong 3,000rpm and above.

Damnit - insurance wouldn`t play ball with the RS, and dealer couldn`t give enough in P/X, so the whole thing is off.

Oh well, money saved.

In a year or two.... ;)

Or get a PD140 Elegance DSG with the 17's and sports suspension, and perhaps a remap, they go quite well then and you get a little extra kit. Just noticed the deal has fallen through, bugger...

What is the differance between the standard car and the sport? Has anyone else remapped the 140 DSG? What problems if any have you had?

With that amount of power and torque how long do tyres last? :D

Hi,my 140DSG is an Elegance. My remap was an "Upsolute" and it gave +40bhp and +80Nm, as I said before, the DSG seems well able to cope with the extra grunt, front tyres (225's on Pegasus) should last you 15000 - 20000kms. I suggested the Sport model because it might be closest to Vrs in the looks department. In Ireland the sport model gets Pegasus/suspension upgrade, sport seats(black cloth) and a 3spoke steering wheel, its not actually a "model" but an optional sport package.

I agree with you about the reasons why it might not happen, but, doesn't Seat offer DSG on the 170PDI Leon?!? Quite a few of the Irish dealers reckon its going to happen aswell, we can only live in hope!!!!

  • 8 months later...

I also have 140pd elegance with dsg

Revo remapped.

absolutely no problems and the extra torque is great we only have a 40mph speed limit here in Jersey but on the continent as far as I am concerned it is an absolute blast. ps average 45mpg in very stop start traffic
