Popped out earlier to pick up my lass from the train station and about 2-3 minutes into my journey the car seemed to stutter in each gear. Turned around and came back, just had the AA guy out and he's changed one of the coil packs (3rd cylinder) and left me a few quid lighter.

Car is a 53 MKI VRS plate bought through these forums, and with ~35k on the clock and serviced as per the recommended intervals. Due for a service in the next month or so.

Now, from searching in the forums this seens to be quite a common problem and have done a fait bit of reading up on the matter on here and Im going to have a look at the weekend at what the other packs are as I gather they all have different letters.

If I find that they are the troublesome ones, should I be getting the dealership to replace these? The threads talking about this seems a bit old so just wanted to check whether this is still common place. And does that mean I can get a refund from my part from the AA?

If not and its up to me is it recommended to replace the lot, or just carry a spare in the boot?

Its unlikely youll get any joy from Skoda as probably the car is outside warranty. Y

ou could replace all of them with the latest I think L revision coilpacks like I did (there were a few types on my engine) or keep a spare in the boot along with a couple of tools.

Upto you whether you have the wonga really.

How much do the coilpacks cost? Mines an 04 plate but it does feel lumpy at times and im wondering if the coilpacks could be to blame.

About £30 a pop. When one of mine went it felt as quick as a trabant with a fat russian on board. And the engine management light flashed.

Unless your car is covered under warranty and you used Skoda Assist when you broke down, I don't think you've got much chance of getting your money back.

Cars not under warranty, however its mentioned elsewhere on here than the coil packs were covered for 5 years. I paid £41, obviously always going to end up paying a bit more from someone like the AA - was just glad it was sorted there and then. The reason I mentioned a refund was again from on here, where someone mentioned getting a refund if it had a full service history. Cnat say Im too fuseed, just wante to hear if anyoen had been in a similar situation as like I mentioned before most of the threads are quite old on the subject.

Think Ill have a look at the others and just keep a spare in the car, seems the best option.

There were a couple of times in the previous week Id thought it was playing up slightly, I just put it down to a cold engine and no turbo (Which it could well have been). You'll know if it goes, the car was near impossible to drive with teh stuttering and chugging. Free wheeled most of the way back.
