Retrofit VW steering wheel?

Featured Replies

Obviously with the stock sport vRS wheel I lack the multifunction button setup.

Is it possible and/or has anyone tried retrofitting a VW GTi multifunction wheel to the vRS and swapping the logo out for the Skoda one? Or any other VAG sport MF wheel?

..it seems like a suitable and possible VAG swapout job.

I mean a wheel like this:

Edit - Just found a few links but the 4 spoke Skoda job is kinda bulky and horrible looking:

If you can get a wheel with the right version of the steering wheel controller inside, then in theory it should work ok. The wheel uses canbus to communicate with the cars ecu, hence the need for the correct wheel controller. Then it should just be a case of VAG-COM to tell the car you have the wheel.

It is not a problem - VW Golf V steering whell is fully compatible with Octavia II, but you need to change an airbag too (it is very expensive part) and steering column electronic module like in case of retrofittng Octavia 4-spoken MFS

And buttons illumination will be red

Ah bummer.. forgot the red light bit :) Had a look at the prices and it looks to cost around 300-400UKP for the wheel, electrics and the bag. I guess I'll have to wait for the facelift octy 2.5 or 3 when that appears and then see if I can get the part for cheap.

I think, you said about electrics inside steering wheel - yes, there is a litlle electronic unit, which include in MFS. But additionally you will need a new electronic module, which located in the steering column. It cost around 300 USD (~150 UKP)

In my opinion, change light from red to green in the buttons is not a big problem - some new LEDs and a bit of time or money

It does seema bit of a pity that as it can be easily done with out of the bin parts from VAG that Skoda don't offer it as an option.

I'll see what the local dealer will entertain, as I don't want to void any warranties by getting it done.
