Central Locking and Electric Windows

Featured Replies

I had a problem with my Fabia 1.9 Sdi. The central locking failed to operate leaving only the driver's door openable with the key The other doors and the hatch stayed locked - passengers had to climb into the back makeing me v. unpopular.. Also, the controls for the electric front windows "swapped", ie. the left switch operated the right window and vice versa.

I suspected that the locks may be down to a blown fuse, but on removing the suspect I heard a "click" from under the dash. The fuse was OK so I put it back into its slot. On re-starting the engine, the locks and the windows all worked as they should.

Any thoughts?

Seems to be quite common; their little brains get mixed up. A re-boot of the computer; ie. switching the ignition off then on again often sorts it.

Had the window-swapping thing happen a few times now; is very confusing when it happens as you start to wonder if you pressed the right control! As Bertj points out, switching off and back on usually solves it...

Thanks - at least I know I'm not going mad. Have to go and change headlight bulb now - the fifth in 12 months! The gap between the battery and the back of the light cluster was designed for people with fingers like pipe-cleaners.

Be careful with the covers at the back and ensure they are re-fitted correctly, one of our illustrious members managed to foul up his gearbox cables, with one after changing bulbs

(Cue Jason :D )

Could it be something like this thread?

It would account for the symptoms - especially the "click" as you pulled the fuse (some poor overloaded relay dropping out with a sigh of relief...)
