Petrol boycott AGAIN!

Featured Replies

I was e-mailed this by a colleague at work, its been tried before but it can only work if everyone sticks to it. Its not difficult, i've been doing it for ages anyway! Rather than e-mail it to 10 people i thought i would broadcast it to thousands.

Sounds good in principle but how many supermarkets etc source their petrol from Esso/BP? How much of the stuff that is sold under another brand name JET etc actually comes from a BP/Esso refinary? So long as they are moving the stuff out of the refineries they won't give a rats and it will just be the franchisee who runs the pumps that will feel the hardship. Not sure if that is the case, stand to be corrected and join in if not :)

Sorry, but this is simply SPAM.

So have they really got us by the balls? Is there nothing we can do? I was all geared up to stick it to em too!

What a load of crap that email is.

I tend to think that people who have to post in comedy fonts at ridiculous sizes have little of merit to say.

easy... no need for that... I've met Mac, and he's a nice fella........ with lots of things of merit to say, regardless of whether the e-mail is pointless or not.

Thats a touch harsh! Was probably cut and pasted from an email. :)

The font type and size are the way it was e-mailed to me, awful i know but i just copied and pasted it. when i pasted it and added my bit at the start it was normal size and font so i posted it. When i saw it had came out massive i clicked on the edit button and it was all small again so i gave up and hoped people wouldn't mind and assumed those older members who prefer large print would be grateful. That said, big or small, it still provoked discussion which is what a forum is all about isn't it or am i missing the point?

Cheers Sharky, you're alright too!

Thats outrageous!! kebab moped triangulation

Out of interest does anyone know roughly what the breakdown of the price of a litre of fuel is, in terms of actual fuel cost, tax etc.?

well I believe its 80% (could be 75%) tax from our goverment (the highest in Europe) so if a litre is £1 and 80p is tax, I can't see the oil companies or the forecourts being able to knock much off, has to come down to how much it is taxed...... they keep going on about road pricing, but they all ready have it in place perfectly... its called fuel duty.... the more you drive, the more you pay in tax

my tax on fuel alone per week is about £80.......

According to BBC (from the AA):

The breakdown is quite good Chris but remember ther is Petroleum tax in the oil company bit, VAT and other dutys in the others, with the latest hike by UKCE it is now just over 81% total revenue to the Goverment.

Thanks for Dave and Chris with their price breakdowns. The reason for my asking is that, as I suspected, such drops simply would not happen.

I think we need to just bite the bullet and accept the fuel is going to get more expensive. It's a limited commodity that's getting harder to source and is in great demand . . . ergo it's expensive! Tax does make a large proportion of the cost, but that's the government that controls that not the oil companies. Furthermore, and putting my green hat on, if it was substantially reduced in costs it would encourage the use of less economical vehicles and that isn't going to help the very real environment problem we have either.

Just my thoughts . . . .

....is the wrong answer.

I don't think the environmental problem is really "very real" - I'm more concerned by the social implications of having more and more congestion without any infrastructure for alternatives.

Chris

With the government taxing us that much they could improve our roads!! And whilst everyone is thinking green, a lot of other countries aren't and have their fuel much cheaper! Why should we get stung and other countries not??
