Custom FMIC pipework

Featured Replies

Currently looking into options other than Forge/Allard etc.

I know other VAG people use more 'generic' intercoolers, from elsewhere in the empire, or even from other manufacturers.

Just wondering about pipework really? Anyone gone this 'custom' route? Cost, suppliers etc would be useful, so I can see if this is a worthwhile avenue to explorer.

Cheers,

Steve

I was going to use GNT engineering in widnes. They seemed happy to do the work.

Or try allard.

I think the Problem lies in where to attach the map sensor. Me being a skint student i have already looked into this route ;)

I know the ibiza 110bhp tdi engine has the map sensor attached to one of the boost pipes instead of the intercooler like on the fabia. so if you modified the ibiza pipe to work with your custom pipe work that will cue the problme of where to put the map sensor.

The only onther problem i see is getting all the pipework to line up properly. If you dont get this bit right your sure to get bad vibes and rattles.

Note: Not done a thing with this yet....!

There's no real problem with getting the bits together to mount the MAP sensor. You can buy the mounting flanges or get them made. Then it's a minor amount of hole drilling and welding to mount the flange onto a straight or bendy bit of steel or alu pipe.

Read on SCN that Forge do them as well.

You can also buy the piping of ebay allong with intercoolers.

Thing is you can get cheaper IC's - but if you look along the openings you can see daylight through them (in ones with openings on either side). This is 'cos the expensive ones have little crimped fingers inside the tubes that maximise heat transfer. The made-in-China ones don't.

The Forge FMIC is probably one of the most expensive upgrades on my car, but having driven in 47 degree heat with a tuned map using the OEM turbo I can vouch for its efficiency....No heatsoak

Pro-Alloy do most one off/ custom stuff!!!!

Cheers Luke - you got any contact info for Pro-Alloy, and I'll give them a shout. Or can pipework be ordered through you?

Thanks,

Steve
