Dealer Tyre Black

Featured Replies

OK. I've used loads of different types of tyre black over the years but never found anything thats as good as the dealer stuff they put on when new.

Anyone know what it is ?

Isn't the answer is the question? Nothing - just new tyres :D

I saw the car just after it had come off the Transporter so the dealer has definatley put something on....

yes they do put tyre black on the cars when you come to pick it up from new or when they go on the forecourt.

i coudl tell you what we use, but then i'd have to kill you! ;)

ive had a quick look in the wash bays and all they have is the black gunk in random pots. might have to find the storage and see what is it :)

Different dealers will use different products, all will be trade stuff only available in 5l cans.

By far the best tyre dressing i've used has been Meguires Tyre gel. The purple stuff available from Halfords and the like.

The trick is to apply it, leave for a few minutes and then remove any residue. It give a nice "new tyre" look rather than a "covered in silicone" look.

Turtle Wax premium Tyre Gel - You apply it with a sponge or similar and work it in.

Looks good for a very long time and not expensive. Also the 'frauds usually include it in the TurtleWax 3 for 2 offers

good old fashioned lard/dripping

I agree. I use that - the Nano stuff in the yellow bottles.

The worst stuff I ever tried was a Wonder Wheels product that you almost painted on. It was basically black paint that dried extremely quickly. And yes, I did get it all over the alloys, my drive and me. It would have been OK if it didn't crack when the tyres flexed

Steve

I use meguiars tyre gel , gives a wet black look & doesnt even come off in the rain best stuff i,ve ever used

Meguiar's Endurance High Gloss Tyre Gel

to apply all i use is a small bit of old sponge , a quik squirt of the tyre get and rub around the tyre wall . takes about 5mins to do all four

TyreFoam is good stuff in my experience too. :)
