Removing the ECU from an Octavia VRs

Featured Replies

Anyone done it before? I need to pull the ecu from my wife's Octavia for a remap, any tips or tricky areas before I start? I'm guessing it's wipers off, scuttle pannel out and then some sort of clips holding the unit in?

Just a thought but why isn't the map being done via OBD?

I'm getting my Lupo TDi done on a 2 for 1 deal and I can't drive two cars at once! They have agreed to do a bench map in the VRs so I don't have to make a repeat 6 hour round trip.

Ahh right - Got ya.

Whip off your wiper arms and you should be able to lift the plastic scuttle panel(carefully). Then jam something under the panel, this should then allow you to get it out

Just a quick tip.................... take the lupo ECU out and drive the Octavia Vrs!

I have removed plenty of ECU's from both these cars and the lupo one is ten times easier to remove.

If you do need the Octavia one out use plenty of WD or similar on the wiper arm and if its not moved before a sharp "blow" with a hammer can shock it free. Just be carefull near the windscreen. A very small set of pullers can be used to help also.

With some practice and small hands it can be extracted between the scuttle trim and bulk head with removing anything.

Vento Gareth,

I manged to get my Octy ECU out without removing wipers(as these were on so tight)

There is not a lot of room but can be done. You need to undo the plastic panel screws, then prop the panel up with something so you get enough light into where the ECU is.

The ECU is held in tight with metal sliders gripping each side of the ECU. I opend out these metal sliders with a flat screwdriver a little to made removing smoother and sprayed a little WD40 on them. Then uplugged the wiring and gradually pulled out the ECU, moving it side to side a little as i was pulling it.

Do the connectors on the ECU just pull off or are they clipped in place somehow?

The Bosch ME7.5 ECU has two connectors for the wiring loom. They have a locking connector that needs pulling sideways to release the clip.

Hope this helps

Many thanks, very helpful.

Don't remember if mine had 2 plugs or not, but yes you have a clip one side that you need to pull to one side then pull out the ECU. Needs a little encouragement. had a few scrapped knuckles. As stated a little grease on the ECU sides helps install it back easier.

I meant to say Pull off the ECU plug from the ECU. ................
