A slight quandry...

Featured Replies

A mate of mine took a Mk1 Octy vRS for a test drive the other day, and we were both impressed with it!

It's a 53 plate, in Red, with only 6000 miles on the clock! FSSH etc.

They want £8495 for it, and are DESPERATE for Fabia vRS's. Not got a figure for mine, but I reckon I could take the Octy and £4000 cash, for my car, judging by what they're selling Fabia's for.

Worked out I'd be paying about £500 more a year to run it, plus neglegable increases in insurance.

I've always had bigger cars, so I'm just wondering whether it'd be worth it?

I dont get it.

Are you saying your Fabia is worth £12500??

I dont get it.

Quite possible, some dealers are listing "less than 1-year-old, less than 10k miles" Fabias for £12.5k. Some are listing for less, but given the likely movement possible on the Octy's price anyway, there probably is about a £4k difference in value - it's certainly a good ballpark to aim for in negotiating anyway, worst they can do is say no.

I'd say trade in... :D

yup, I'm shocked too... however, they said they were very DESPERATE for them!

They've got an 06 silver one up for £12,495 and they expect it to go for that

Go for it. Better looking, bigger, 'grown up', faster.... ticks all the boxes for an affordable quick car.

If you can afford it then go for it :D

agreed... if you can afford to run it, don't do the big 50k a year miles... then go for it :)

8.5k seems awfully steep for a car that's 4 years old and cost 13k new.

Glasses won't quote for 6k, but for 10k the px price would be:

Part-exchange Price:

Excellent condition: £6400

Average condition: £5730

Below average condition: £5030

Please note: Unfortunately, we don't have a valuation for the requested mileage. However, we can value this car at 10,000 miles.

Part-exchange Price:

Excellent condition: £6400

+ £1k dealer profit

+ £1k "negotiable" profit

= £8400... :)

Octy vRS was a bit more than £13k new wasn't it? About £15/16k IIRC...

Also, take a look on Autotrader and find one for that low price...

Always take "expert valuations" with a (giant-sized) pinch of salt

My Octy vRS was £15,350 brand new , though that was in July 2001.

At that age it will be shortly requiring a cambelt, and it will deffo need a service, and I would be wary of a car that's only done 6k miles in 4 years anyway.

Still, if the price is right.

The increase in space, especially int boot is well worth it if you like bigger cars anyway.

After driving the Octy and now driving the Mazda6, the Octy doesn't feel as big as it looks when you're driving it, if that makes any sense. It's still quite a lively chuckable motor.

If you can get a good enough deal, then go for it.

Is this about the money, or about the car???

If you want and Octy then go for it, but make sure it's the that's right for you.... eg extras, colour, age, trim etc.

I wouldn't do the change cars just becasue there was an excellent deal on the table. I'd ask myself, if I actully wanted to change cars......

Does that make sense? Oh well, anyway............

well... I've been driving 4 years and this is my 6th car... so I don't really hang on to cars that long anyway!

I was just impressed that the Octy felt like a better car than the Fabia (sorry guys!) and I love the seats!

I'm gonna go down tomorrow and get some proper figures, and take it for a long test drive for myself

yup, I'm shocked too... however, they said they were very DESPERATE for them!

I've always found that dealers who say this right up to the point where they offer you a deal and they then seem a lot less desperate than you might have thought.:(

Good luck with the viewing. Remember the golden rule of making an offer..... "start with the lowest number you can think of whilst still keeping a straight face"

And of course, be very disappointed when your not accepted. After all, you thought it was a really good offer!
