Felicia lowering springs

Featured Replies

I don't understand the helper spring things. Ordered 2 for my rear axle as the one's there have split and perished leaving part of them hollow (took me a while to figure out they are the same part as the one I've ordered). Very expensive for a bit of rubber at £15 each. What do they do exactly anyway? Just firm up the ride? I thought they might be important for covering the shocker shaft. Surely you'd have to do away with these if you used lowering springs, or cut them down?

i think you are confusing helper springs with bump stops, a bump stop is cone shaped piece of rubber or polyurethane and it slides over the piston rod of the damper, it's there to stop the damper from bottoming out of heavy bumps.

a helper spring is a medium guage metal spring which is fitted to ride height adjustable coilvers suspension struts, it's there to prevent the main sping from jumping out of the spring seat when the strut goes into rebound (like when you go over a hump back bridge and your wheels come off the floor or when there is no weight on the suspension) it does this by constantly keeping the main sping under pressure, the helper spring itself is normally fully coil bound(compressed) when the weight of the car is on it so many people thing they are useless and prevent you from slamming the car so they remove the help spig completely...

iirc the HP units dont have helper springs fitted at all, instead they have a progressive rate spring which tightens towards the top

Hi Guys

I have just had a look and it seems like H&R do a set of springs for the Felicia and yes Koni do a "Special" shocker for the Felicia aswell

yes indeed koni do make them, but as far as i can tell they are inserts which need to be fitted to the oe struts

yer there sight said something about cutting your old dampers, i looked at them before going for the HP's

however. the HP shocks we have been talking about are there "practice" range. they also do a "race" range that are fully adjustable hight and damping wise. and they have helper springs (see pic) but there is no importer to the uk at the mow.
