I'll be out of the country for a month and wondered if the battery will be ok when I get back, ie will it start?

What's the longest anyone has not used their superb for.

Thinking I might switch off the alarm to save battery, since it will be securely parked anyway.

Any thoughts or suggestions

My mk2 Octy vRS coped fine with 6 weeks of non use early last year through a combination of illness then recovery / working away.

It started first time, the disks had surface rust on them so made a lovely graunching noise the first time they where used but other than that it was fine, it just took a second or so crank to life, the battery seemed fine.

When I had my octavia mk1, it was hardly used in the winter. The longest I left it was about 4 weeks, and it was fine and started like it was last used the day before.

Like you, I was worried about leaving my Superb Elegance 2.8 V6 petrol(automatic, therefore no bump starts!) for 5 weeks when I was abroad in April/May this year.

It was left in the drive at a relation's house in Stirlingshire with alarm on and everything else left as normal. Came back and it started first time! If your battery is reasonably ok (mine was 2 years old) I guess you should be fine.

The diesel batteries seem to cope especially well with long periods of non-use. Longest I ever left mine was about 10 days though - Not much of a test.

Unless your battery is on its last legs, I wouldn't worry about leaving it for a month or two. My Octy regularly is laid up for weeks at a time and has never had any issues on starting.

Do not leave the negative cable attachted to your battery, this will prevent drainage.

Make sure you disconnect it before leaving. (Black one)

left a 2.5 diesel fully connected battery and alarm on for 4 weeks - however to be sure i did a good run first

My car was fine after spending nearly 8 weeks in a container coming to NZ. It still had the radios settings, so they didn't disconnect the battery!

I wouldn't disconnect your battery unless needed.

My Passat is used every day, been out there after being stood up for 4 days and its so flat I can't even unlock it!

Maybe its time for a new one :(

To NZ it cost 1250 quid plus 600 insurance, plus $1000 here for plates, reg etc.

But to be honest, unless the car means a lot to you or it'll be cheaper to brig it (as it was for me!) don't bother. I'm glad I brought my car, but there was a lot of hassle!!
