Wheels are 17" x 8". Anyone run this sized wheel on a Fabia? I know 17s tend to be 7 or 7.5 wide typically.

Is there a calculator/guide available? Was thinking of 205/40/17 if possible.

I believe 215/40 R17 would be best. My wheels are 7.5" wide, and I don't think the extra 1/2" is going to really affect how that tyre sits. (It sits comfortably on mine with no stretch)

Cheers Jason. I've ran 7.5s before, but was just curious. Don't know how wide my current Spiders are actually - likely 7 or 7.5.

Manufacturers' (wheel and tyre, not just car) recommendation is that the rim width should be 70 to 95% of the tread width.

Thanks Ken. So 8" being 203.2mm, a 215 is a safer bet than a 205.

I'd be looking at 215's or 225's and then go with whichever one was the cheapest size

The rim width calculator on Car Bibles : The Wheel and Tyre Bible Page 2 of 2 seems to say anywhere between 17 x 7" and 17 x 8.5" rims are acceptable for both 205/40/17 or 215/40/17

Would be for a Fabia, Chris, so 225s aren't really possible.

215/40/17 and 205/40/17 are around the same price per corner, a Toyo T1-R for example at £60-65.

You can get alot of data there, but it needs to be improved, another job.

Not entirely convinced by the "Car Bible" stuff. For example, it quotes using the 70% width figure with tyres of 55% aspect ratio, but the Octy Elegance runs 205/55R16s on 6.5" rims, which "his" rule says should be on 5.5" rims (5.64", rounded to the nearest half inch).

215s for sure Steve. 205s will look skinny, but not stretched.

Go with 185s for the ultimate dub look.. :P
